It does seem to be fertile ground (pun intended) for misunderstanding.
The blackening up as a form of identity concealment is long forgotten (or not well known), and those from a foreign (in this case asian) culture can easily misinterpet it as mockery. Alittle education would solve this misunderstanding

For once, I agree with gromit. Morris-dancing is patently not racist (bit looney, so are many traditions) and an assault on it is an assault on (and total misunderstanding of) our cultural mores. Stringent education is probably the answer - but at the very least other cultures must be told that we shall not drop our traditions for their perceived 'hurt'. They need to grow up and learn about the culture of the country they inhabit.....or should 'melas' be banned by indigenous white British - of course not. Give and take on all sides.

It is amazing how we are supposed to bend over backwards to accept and understand the cultures of our 'visitors' but they dont seem to want to return the favour.

Perhaps another country better suited to their closed minds might be better for them to live in?
