I don't have a god to offer a prayer to, but if I did, it would be to pray that we stop state-sponsored murder as a response to individual murder.
I agree, Andy. I hate the death penalty and I also hate the fact that Americans are free to carry guns around with them. WTW?

I was on a bus trip in America recently, and a woman said she and her family had loads of guns as they lived on a farm. She then said "Don't worry, I'm not armed today." Well, lovely. Thanks, lady!
I'm all for the death sentence. This piece of scum cold murdered all those poor innocent people and I'm pretty sure he would do it again given half a chance. People like him do not deserve a second chance and the law abiding punlic certinaly dont need to be put at risk again when some bleeding heart liberal lets him out.

As for banging on about guns on a farm, just what planet do you live on?
I watched a programme where a secondhand gun shop was opened as an experiment. People browsed the guns, picked one that was right for them and then as the shop keeper was boxing it up for sale they were casually told which mass shooting it was used in. Most people changed their minds.
Young - why do you trot out nonsense like that? No bleeding heart liberal would ever let a mass murderer out. *sigh*
I'm with Ummm here....that was a daft thing to say YMB. A Sigh from me as well.
YMB - //People like him do not deserve a second chance and the law abiding punlic certinaly dont need to be put at risk again when some bleeding heart liberal lets him out. //

A mandatory life sentence would take care of the chances of a repeat occurrence.
He'll probably sit on Death Row until he dies of old age.
im against the death penalty, lock him up in a small cell in solitary for the rest of his life and let him go slowly mad
It's probably a phrase I have repeaeted on the AB more than any other - but it bears repeating again - our laws are what make us civilised.

That is why, as a civilised society, we set out a series of punishments, and abide by them, because - with the exception of capital punishment which is barbaric primitive revenge - that is how a civilised society deals with its offenders.

So we don't allow the queue of people who imagine they could 'throw the switch', or 'have ten minutes alone with ...' and similar emotive, but unfounded claims - to carry out what their emotions lead them to think is appropriate retribution.

The system is far from perfect, but it is the best that we have, and we have to accept it, including its limitations.
If a life sentence meant life in jail I could have some sympathy with your view.

However it does not, murderers are spending less and less time inside. It is simply unacceptable.
YMB....this happened in America, where people convicted of minor offences spent their lives in prison, and it was still a daft thing for you to say.

But nobody would advocate letting someone out of prison after committing multiple murders, either here or in America.
Do you live in the UK, Young?

You can't say 'But nobody' can you

Can you?
"The system is far from perfect, but it is the best that we have, and we have to accept it, including its limitations."

No we don't. The system can be changed if enough people want to vary the limitations.
Talbot....yes I can and whats more, I just did !

I echo what Ummmm has said, and we don't always agree !

"No bleeding heart liberal would ever let a mass murderer out"

Then you are dafter than I thought you were, mikey.
How do you think people who have committed multiple murders get out of prison?
They committed them before they were caught?
Talbot.....evidence for multiple murders being released for life sentences please ?
Question Author
I was hoping you would do some googling and come across the numerous campaigns to release some of these mass murderers ..... Which would be impossible to do because no bleeding heart liberal would lead such a campaign ........
