"In this day and age why was a seven year old walking home alone from a primary school, which is half a mile from her home? "
maybe she walked home with a few other children this area in york is a very safe area and of course no one expects this to happen here, i doubt very much if the parents would allow her to walk home without some other parents keeping an eye on her.
we shall see when the court is held
RIP to the little girl ,

“Who knows, we must wait until details are released.”
“…you can't wait until the true details are released .?”
You might have to hold your breath. There is an increasing movement in the UK to anonymise child and youth crime (especially that of the more serious variety). The usual blanket anonymity granted to those under 18 who are involved in court proceedings is being enhanced by “lifelong anonymity” accompanied by identity changes. Although we may find out some of the details of this horrendous incident I would wager that the identity of the perpetrator is never made known. In order to protect her identity no details of her family will be released and so no information which may provide an explanation for her actions (broken home, mother a prostitute, step-father who abused her a drug dealer, uncle nailed her head to the floor on Sunday mornings, etc.) is unlikely to be forthcoming.
The deal between the people and the State is that the people relinquish the right to take action against their transgressors and allow the State to do so on their behalf. This can hardly be feted with confidence if (a) we don’t know who these serious perpetrators are and (b) they get a new identity when they are “rehabilitated” (often in an unrealistically short time) to live among the rest if us.

/// I don't speculate, and I don't find that reading others' speculations gives me the slightest insight into why dreadful things happen. ///
Who suggested that you do, don't take things so personal.
I was just pointing out that speculations take place all the time on AB:
"Did he die of a drugs overdose"?
"Had she an history of mental illness" Etc, Etc.

You asked a question, I answered it.
As the on-going post illustrate, speculation is as ghoulish as it is pointless.
What sort of response did you think you'd get to a Question like this anyway?
The obvious response is 'No' - with nothing added, there is no point.

AOG - ///// True, AOG, but you've asked a question to encourage parent bashing without the facts. ///
That is a complete lie and well you know it, why do you constantly try to read something that is not there, in almost every post I enter? //
Then feel free to elaborate - what actually is there?
As I have asked - what response did you expect or hope for?
