I wouldn't attend if I was so against him.

They're attending to:

1. Show respect for the office.
2. Uphold democracy
3. Get on the telly
4. Say 'I was there' if it all goes Pete Tong
I think it is wrong to boycott the Inauguration, because it indicates a level of disrespect for the will of the American electorate.

I think you have to respect the process, even if you don't respect the individual.

There are plenty of opportunities to register dissent further down the line. This just makes the boycotters look peevish and small-minded.

They are giving Trump the credibility that he barely deserves.

I expect Bill will be there, despite Trump having insulted his missus in every way possible for months.

They are hypocrites, all of them.
mikey - I think people have to be big enough to accept that Trump is the elected leader - they don't have to like it, but they do have to accept it.
You've lived this long, Mikey, and suddenly it hits you that politicians are two-faced, back-biting, loathsome creatures not worthy of a second look? :)
Accept it, yes, be part of it, no.
They are hypocrites, all of them.

Finally.

Democrats boycott democracy ... you don't have to make it up.
Question Author
Andy....they have no choice but to accept him, but they can refrain from celebrating the fact if they choose to do so. Some have taken that decision but not enough to have the intended impact.

Dougie ....was ever thus I suppose.
They could all announce that they will not be attending, despite not being invited in the first place, you know like the "performers" who have declined despite not being asked to. But were some of them not happy to "perform" for one of Putin's henchmen only recently, right in the democratic centre of the universe? Hypocrites..... Luvvies Meeeh.
Mikey - //Andy....they have no choice but to accept him, but they can refrain from celebrating the fact if they choose to do so. //

I don't think the Inauguration is a 'celebration' - it is what it is - the swearing in of the next President.

If there is a party afterwards, then by all means boycott that.
Question Author
Togo...I might have got this wrong, but.....the link says that 50 of the House Democrats are boycotting the ceremony, an event where they are automatically invited.

This has nothing to do with pop singers not attending.
Same syndrome Mikey, sulky flounce.
Question Author
No Togo....totally different, as you would have seen if you had bothered to read the link first !
They're behaving like a bunch of petulant twerps! It's not a celebration - it's an essential ceremony. Trump is the next president of the USA. Get on with it!
I wouldn't attend if I was so against him.
Luvvies and snowflakes are absolutely unimportant to the Donald, his priority is to see working families getting jobs and a fair deal, and not to have to see their sons (and now daughters) sent abroad to kill and be killed in parts of the world they have never heard of;
and mikey, as you are labour supporter, I'm constantly puzzled why you are continually carping on about him. Trump is going to be a much-needed breath of fresh air in US domestic and foreign policies.
Will Farage, Gove, and Mickey Mouse Boris be there?.
Question Author
Khandro.....another one who hasn't read the link then !

This isn't about "luvvies" .....its about 50 Democrat member of the House.
Question Author
Gulliver....well, someone as to show everybody to their seats....Trum'ps Butler only has one pair of hands !
