820,000 seems like small beer to me.

From the link - //It does not specify that only crimes committed by illegal immigrants should be included - raising the prospect of offences committed by any immigrant being published even if the person is living in the US legally. //
Highlighting people on the basis of their ethnicity.
We know a word for that, don't we boys and girls?

andy-hughes, //Highlighting people on the basis of their ethnicity. //
No, listing any immigrant of any nationality or ethnicity who commits a crime - and of course that could include British, Canadian, Australian... I'm sure you get my drift.

We do indeed. ‘Sensible’. Like us, the Americans are stuck with their indigenous criminals but they don’t have to be stuck with the imported variety.

Well I had a good look at the threads and could find no reference to highlighting the ethnicity of the immigrants who commit crimes. Perhaps that means it will include all immigrants then. British, Canadian, Polish, Albanian, Mexican in fact where ever the immigrant is from. Perhaps the idea is that until such immigrants have gained US citizenship they will be returned whence they came. Without identifying which criminals are immigrant you cannot deport them. Pretty straight forward, it is what most Countries are doing anyway. The difference here is that the figures are not going to be covered up. Now that does rattle the cages of the Lib Luvs.
Some clarity is needed here.
What crimes will be listed?
Will these include traffic offences?
Will the list be of those arrested, or those charged or those who have been convicted?
What is the definition of 'alien'? Are people still considered immigrants if they have been in the U.S. since they were babies, and then in their 60s are convicted of a public order offence?
Will the list be broken down by region, state, type of offence, severity of offence?
And finally, for balance, would it not make more sense to publish a list of all criminals? If this is indeed a move to improve public safety, then surely Americans would want to know about the criminal activities of their fellow Americans, not just immigrants?

“Behold, the Spring has come; the earth has received the embraces of the sun and we shall soon see the results of that love!
Every seed is awakened and so has all animal life. It is through this mysterious power that we too have our being, and we therefore yield to our neighbors, even our animal neighbors, the same right as ourselves, to inhabit this land.
Yet, hear me, people, we have now to deal with another race – small and feeble when our fathers first met them but now great and overbearing. Strangely enough they have a mind to till the soil and the love of possession is a disease with them. These people have made many rules that the rich may break but the poor may not. They take their tithes from the poor and weak to support the rich and those who rule.
They claim this mother of ours, the earth, for their own and fence their neighbours away; they deface her with their buildings and their refuse. The nation is like a spring freshet that overruns its banks and destroys all that are in its path.
We cannot dwell side by side. Only seven years ago we made a treaty by which we were assured that the buffalo country should be left to us forever. Now they threaten to take that away from us. My brothers, shall we submit or shall we say to them: 'First kill me before you take possession of my land”
