/// Angela Merkel also called for the veil to be banned as she began her campaign for a fourth term as Chancellor. ///

Now there's a surprise, is she getting worried for some reason?

Are they going to define what "Austrian values" are or is this just a Kafka trap with ever moving goalposts designed to encourage Muslims to leave the country regardless?

Do "Austrian values" include "loyalty to the government"? Will this make Muslims who criticise their host country in any way guilty of thought crime?

Every single measure to combat extremism is equally applicable as a tool for the government to fight dissent. That's why we need to be very cautious about the powers we lend governments to do this, because they will not give them back in a hurry. Made-for-TV policymaking is not good for democracy.
Good thinking, I wish we would do the same. One of the things I like about western culture is the ability to read people's expressions when talking to them. If one is allowed to speak with Muslim women I would equate it with talking to a brick wall.
The only things I can think of is the treatment of women by some Muslim men and respecting the laws of the land.

I don't like the veil because I like to see someones face and the same rules should apply to those that wear it as they do for those that don't, airports, courts, banks etc...

When inviting guests into your home, don't you expect or even demand that they abide by your own set of house rules etc?
1) A country is not a house.

2) A country is not a house.

3) Yeah, I'm just asking if those rules are reasonable or if they have a more insidious agenda.
I agree with ummmm

/// 1) A country is not a house. ///

That may well be but like a house it is a place where we all reside.

/// 2) A country is not a house. ///

Same answer as above.

/// 3) Yeah, I'm just asking if those rules are reasonable or if they have a more insidious agenda. ///

Reasonable.
Are they? All the Express specifies is that they're about veils and "values". I'd like to know how they are planning on assessing the latter.
Sounds reasonable to me. If they don't attend then they are at risk of losing benefit money.

No different to the UK for example, fail to attend a JSA appointment and expect to be sanctioned.

Fair's fair.
I do not agree to your idea. Muslims is attracted in Austria.
Yes Austria is bang on.
We should integrate & cover ourselves in public, 3+ husbands trailing & taking their incomes, have eunoch slaves and torture layabouts.
you cannot integrate with a group that wants to kill you.
Well done Austria and Angela Merkel as woke up at last hope we are next and then the rest of the world
