You are hosting 2 dinner parties one weekend...First one, you can invite 6 famous guests, either dead or alive from history....and why you picked them.

Just for fun....Second one, you can choose any 6 AB'ers from this site...... (It's not a popularity competition, just which mix you think would make for interesting night).

Who would you choose to invite and make the conversation and evening interesting?

Six famous guests - Princess Diana, Paul O'Grady, Noel Fitzpatrick, Douglas Kennedy (author), Martina Cole (author) and Donald Trump! Because I like/love all of them

Abers - naomi, ladybirder, TTT, Mamya, aog and bobbi (ex aber). I think that would be a good mix.
I heard of someone being asked such a question on a job interview about who they would like to have as dinner party guest dead or alive and they answered "Oh definitely alive"
History

1. William Shakespeare - to find out what he was really doing in the "unknown" years.
2. Queen Boudicca - to establish her views on EU after the way she almost rid us of the Romans
3. J K Rowling - to hear her discuss the relative merits of their fantasy worlds with ......
4. J R Tolkien - see above
5. Karen Carpenter - would just love to hear her sing again.
6. My Father - he left to go to war when I was 5 weeks old, and didn't come back. It would be nice to get to know him.

Answerbank
1. You - to see fair play ;-)
2. The late Mrs O - a wonderful contributor
3. Ab Editor - as 1 above
4. Sqad - in case anyone was taken ill
5. Any one of over a dozen others, I'm unable to choose between
6. Mamyalynne - for a closing song
Canary - I would have picked my Dad too (and my Mum) both deceased, but y-b said someone famous x
Churchill.
Roy(From Blade Runner).
Napoleon.
Alexander the Great.
Ptolemy.
Isaac Newton.

Tony AV.
New Judge.
Talbot.
Tilly2.
Minty.
The Ex Met Officer.

I would then need to have another couple of AB dinners just to invite at least another very interesting dozen or so Abers.
Hi, Yogi....will do the famous ones (sort of history I think) first, then mull over the next six!

Stephen Fry.......for his mind and charm.........
Graham Norton.....for his wit and fun.......
Joan Baez.....♥♥♥
Freddie Mercury.....for one more song.....and I adored him.....
Constance Markievicz.....for her passion and love for Ireland....and because she was a friend of Yeats.....she was a feisty lady who would be wonderful to listen to....
Richard111 I think.....to solve some mysteries.....x
Togo - EMO sends kind regards. I'm still pondering over my list
Blimey ask an easy one Yogi, like why does f over power the qwibble of z. never the less I shall have an atempt:

God (What The Funicular)
Freddie Mercury (He's always there for me)
Issac Asimov (Johnny ball reveals all)
Holly Valance (eye Candy)
Brian Cranston (Walter Whites Better alias ;-)
Peter Kaye (Enough said)

That was easy, too many abers to mention though, depends on whether a party, fight night or a love in.

I've worked out my famous guests......(so difficult for ABers, as there are loads that are really interesting... so will come back to that later)

My famous six are:

Stephen King ( Author )
Clint Eastwood
Eric Morecambe
Steve Walsh (Legendary DJ )
Audrey Hepburn
Oprah Winfrey

(Used to go to same high school as Steve, after he was there, a pleasure to have known him, a real inspiration to me, such a lovely man, and he sadly died in a car accident whilst filming in Ibiza )
Tony Benn and William Cobbett for politics

Byron and Coleridge for literature

John Peel and Neil Young for the music

I've actually met a couple of dozen ABers over the years - it would be invidious to pick favourites (apart from the much missed MrsO)

Question Author
Freddie Mercury, Graham Norton, Roy ( from Blade Runner )and Karen Carpenter are great shouts, but they all are so far.

How lovely, Canary....It sure would be.....I had an Uncle who lived in the States, like a second Dad to me, saw him only a few times my entire life, he died at 53 of lung cancer, due probably to his heavy smoking. Would have loved to get to know him better too.
Jeremy Clarkson (funny)
Frankie Boyle (controversial)
John Lennon (deep)
Cat Stevens (Interesting)
Donald Trump (all the above will pee him off)
Syd Barret.

I've met most of the ABers I like but will add to the list...

Your good self..
Smowball
Ecclescake
Mamy
Wolf
Naomi
AOG

And loads of others...
Clarkson is a good call, ummmm - I'd like to see him and Tony Benn together :)
Catherine the Great, Alexander the Great, Peter the Great, Alfred the Great, Charlemagne, Gregory the Great. Not sure if we could all speak Latin, though. There might be a shortage of conversation.
Eric Morecambe
Michael Landon
My Mum [she died when I was 12]

Arky, Wharton, 1ozzy and Welshyorkie.
Question Author
I would have a dinner party every week, for at least a couple of months, to fit in as many as I can that I would like to invite.

So for starters would have:

Andy Hughes ( Shared music interest, journalist and DJ, so will make good conversation )
Sqad ( Great knowledge of everything happened in his life, can be really funny, bet has some great stories, and would be a pleasure, ....Plus he's OUR doc :-) )
Gness ( and her pet Owl, Roy, who's currently in her commode at the back of her garden, near ET'S flying bike ) ....
Ummmm ( always liked her, since joining on this site years and years ago )
Mamylynne ( lovely lady....Great choice of music and can choose the evenings tunes, giving me a rest.)
Tilly (just for being Tilly )

Next week

Mikey
Buenchico
Boo
Jackthehat
NoMercy ( for her wine expertise )
Baldric ( I like him a lot, as I do LOADs of you )

Following week

Grasscarp
Mazie
Snags......
.....
And
Loads
More, to numerous to mention all :-)

Cheers Yogi, I'll bring a Bottle or three ;o)
Question Author
Murraymints
Canary
Patsy
Cupid
Annesquith
DTC
Hopkirk
....And others

I might have to hire The Metropole or The Grand Hotel's banqueting suites, fit you all in :-)

Having perused all the interesting responses, I am amazed at the variety. For a baseline list, you could do worse perhaps than check Caryl Churchill's selection for just such a dinner party in her splendid play Top Girls .

For those not familiar with the play, her "famous" guests were ...

Isabella Bird - World traveller
Pope Joan - infamous "female" Pope
Lady Nijo - Japanese concubine (13th Century)
Dull Gret - subject of Brueghel painting
Patient Griselda - Boccaccio/Chaucer character

... and no, before I read the play, I hadn't heard of four of them.

The play focuses on the role of women and feminism.
