Speaker Bercow doesn't want Trump to speak in Parliament because of his sexist and racist views.

If applied rigourously, I wonder how many MPs that would rule out

Zacs-master, //....now where IS my pointy hat with the stars on.......? //

Probably in the region that Jackdaw has mentioned.
Now now, no need for vulgarity. Let's leave that to Captain pussy grabber eh?
LOL @ Naomi!!
Jackdaw, :o)
// PeterPedant at 21:10, What Trump says or does in his own country is not the issue. // erm

yes it is as these internal decisions are likely to affect us all
PeterPedant. Right.....
// I don't lie. I supported neither candidate, but I absolutely abhor witch hunts of any description - and that is precisely what this is.//

you may not lie but you say some pretty odd things the rest of the time. "Handsome is as handsome does" as applied to Trump made me sit up

as for Trump should be treated with the respect he accords others, that one had me looking out of the window for a full moon

but still we are all entitled to our opinions ......
Soon be " last word (post) time. :-)
PeterPedant, //"Handsome is as handsome does" as applied to Trump made me sit up //

You didn't sit up far enough. I didn't apply it to Trump.
anneasquith, that's old hat. Must try harder. ;o)
PeterPedant, //as for Trump should be treated with the respect he accords others, //

I didn't say that either. I can't imagine what you're reading but it's certainly not what's written. Perhaps you should try harder too.

Bedtime for me - and if that's the last word on this thread, anneasquith will be pleased. ;o)

Night night. x
Bercow is a buffoon.

As has previously been said, the speaker's role is a politically neutral role and therefore he should have kept schtum. Given that he is a keyholder to Westminster Hall, he wields power over who can speak there anyway so there was no need for his posturing - but let's face it, Bercow always has liked to court publicity, and has always considered himself to be more important than that of the historic role of Speaker.

The thing that irritates me above all else though is the hypocrisy of Bercow. Talbot posted links to the fact that the Chinese President was welcomed (and we all know what a tolerant country that is), and the Emir of Kuwait was welcomed, a country that bans Israelis and treats its women as second class citizens. It was interesting that despite prompting Mikey was incredibly silent about Talbot's links.
Perhaps Burkow is trying to keep Trump away because he is "concerned" about how his lovely wife Sally is liable react. You know what with her well published predilection for the less obsequious male. She likes her company to be ruff n tuff n hard to bluff according to some reports.

Yes you do lose the argument on a regular basis, that is why you possess the Bumper Book of Insults, latest addition to it, 'LICKSPITTLES'.
Bercow was happy to invite the Emir of Kuwait and President of China any many more despots which Bercow was happy sitting smilingly beside them. Hypocrite!!!

And don't you think that the hysterical ramblings from that little upstart of a fa*t (a lesser Trump) will not also affect us all, surely we want the most powerful nation in the world on our side both defensively and economically?
I sense some disquiet today from some abers :-)
The whole charade was staged, notice that the opposition benches were packed, Bercow was addressing the Government benches, and all the clapping came from the opposition benches.

Plus the fact that Bercow once disciplined MPs for clapping saying that "we won't have such behaviour in this House", yet when he is being applauded it is quite acceptable.

The little man should be removed from his office.
AOG - As I understand it, tradition in the House is the MP's do not clap, but wave their Order Papers instead, but on Speaker Bercow's watch, the practice of applause is coming in more and more often - which can be seen as further erosion of the traditions of the House.

Yes I noticed that when I read your post:
