A clutching at straws defence. I am sure juries are keenly monitored so that they do reflect society, and ethnicity, colour, gender are properly represented. As mentioned, the selection process is random, so all white juries will happen sometimes, and nothing wrong with that. If it was forbidden to have an all white jury, then that would actually be...

the alternative to random selection is quota filling and this is not a feature of jury selection in the UK

// No all white juries in Zimbabwe you know, plenty of all white accused, but hey ho.//
oh... is it time to wheel out the joke:
a Boer in sarth efrica was indicted for kicking to death a black labourer
and the jury of Boere - returned a verdict of Not Guilty
and the judge asked what reason ?
by reason of insanity said the foreman
and the judge asked "What all twelve of you?"
ter-daaah !
had to check that as there are no juries in RSA now
but were when the joke was making its rounds

I'd be intrigued by how you computed that 1 in 5
These stats tables give the odds of zero non-white jurors as 14.22%, which is a gnat's over 1 in 7.
Splitting hairs a bit but I'm still curious.
Oh and my usual disclaimer: probabilities have no power to stop things happening anyway.
I'll now read PP's link to find out why the system is as it is.
