Sad that one of such a young age no matter of what colour. has to end it in such a way,
But this "American cop on black shooting" seems to be totally justified.

// but in this instance they seem to be a little quiet for some reason. //
The video and story have only been published on the internet for a few hours. It is not really headline news in this country. The Mail carry a lot of US news because it is targetting that area for advertisers. The story is not on the BBC News home page (I cannot even see it on their US page).
So in short, I suspect most people will first seen the story through your pist, rather than them censoring or ignoring stories that YOU think they won't like.

Naomi - // I simply disagreed with your contention that this is 'a tragedy for all concerned'. It isn't. //
The police officer involved, his family and friends, the young man shot dead, his family and friends, people like me who think a young life cut short like this is a tragedy - we'd all disagree with you on that.

// Exactly my point, it would have soon been reported, had it have been another "blame the cop" syndrome. //
The Police are supposed to stop criminal offences, not commit them. The US police stop thousands of crimes a day, so one of those is not news. If they kill someone and it appears to be not justified, then that IS news.
In this instance, the shooting was justified, and it doesn't really have any news value (especially in the UK).
It really only exists because it is unusual interesting film footage like a Panda sneezing, or a baby falling asleep (also in todays Mail).

divebuddy - //Not so much sad or tragic as inevitable. Sooner or later this "kid" would have killed somebody (if he hasn't already) so the policeman was doing society a favour. //
I don't think the concepts of tragedy and inevitability are mutually exclusive - and this is actually both rather than one or the other.
// I don't think he'll be losing any sleep over it either, why should he. //
Because if you are not human enough to lose sleep over taking a life, you are either acting in a Jason Statham film, or you should not be a police officer with a gun.
Just because the shooting is self defence does not mean that the officer will simply shrug his shoulders and carry on.

No, I am not privy to the officer's mind-set, but I know what humanity means - and to dismiss killing someone in any circumstances does not fit in with it.
If I thought this officer was unaffected by what has happened, I would be seriously worried.
So, I suggest would his employers, who will take him off the streets until an investigation is competed, and offer him counselling if he requires it.
Like I said - this is not an action film, it involves real people.
