/// Ed...the great difficulty with immigration is that it does indeed pop up on almost every thread. ///

Why did you find the need to address your post to the Ed, are you looking for powerful support?

/// Its become the siren call of the Right, even when it has part to play in a debate. Its the cure-all, for lots of people. ///

And the siren call for the Left it would seem, but rather than a cure-all, it does nothing to cure their ills

/// Lets just get rid of the immigrants and everything will be tickety-boo again, just it was in the 50's. ///

I've got news for you mikey, we actually had immigrants back in the 50s, but of the type that were prepared to integrate and could also be trusted.

//Lets just get rid of the immigrants and everything will be tickety-boo again, just it was in the 50's. //

Now that is right-on liberal 'fake news' No one has said or wants all the immigrants out, it is just people like you who seem to think if you write it enough it will be considered true. Just like all the other Remain propaganda. With you project Fear is alive and kicking clearly.
//But so long as Gary Lineker and friends think they have achieved something we can all rest in our beds thinking all is well in the world.//

Then share a cup of self congratulatory organic smoothie and move on to the next right on spotlight guarantee.( After a much publicised glamping holiday) All at no inconvenience to themselves you understand, just as long as the fuzzy feeling keep on coming and don't impinge on the false realities that keep the "poor" people in their places. Meeh.

/// This is your thread for goodness sake.........so now its not a debate ? ///

I am well aware that this is my thread, I have also never said or inferred that this is not a debate.

Perhaps you should read what you actually put, you were making reference to the "luvvies" petition and a petition is in no way a debate.

This was the post I was addressing:

/// AOG.....why can't these people voice their opinion on this subject, if they so wish ? ///

And why are they "luvvies" ?

/// More importantly, why are you trying to stifle debate ? ///

/// Is it only the Right Wing that is allowed to express an opinion ? ///

/// Are you sure about that? ///

Yes I am absolutely sure that he is the President of the United States of America, I saw him being signed in.
Oh no, people having an opinion that is different from AOG's.

GASP.

/// For a lot of us AB is our stage, the place we can make our opinions known - for those in the public eye who have a broader stage, why not use it. ///

No you are wrong Mam, all of us have a much stronger 'stage' than AB or even a multi signed paper addressed to the PM.

It is called the ballot box.

The last General Election plus the Referendum was fought on the grounds of immigration concerns.

I'm not wrong, they have more access to getting their message publicised that tub thumping on here.

We all have the ballot box in that we are equal.
^ than not that
I doubt they think their letter will change Mrs May's mind.
They are just voicing their disapproval, just like anyone else can.
If you think such people should be silenced, then I suggest you should go and live in North Korea, rather than in a democratic country.

/// Oh no, people having an opinion that is different from AOG's. ///

Yes that is the general idea of debates, surprise, surprise, some have a different opinion to that of Trump's and Labour have a different opinion to the Tories.

And if one was to search hard enough, I am sure that one would find a very large number who have a completely different opinion to yourself, Kromo.

Excuse me for diverting my own thread, but since the Ed has chosen to come out of the closet (politically speaking) can I be allowed to ask another question?

What are the political leanings of AB's moderators?
They are like judges Aog, they don't have any.....(^_*)
You'd have to ask each one individually if they'd answer that, have you got all day?
How is anyone suppose to know that? Most of the mods are anon.
Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? :))
-- answer removed --
Except I don't complain about people having a different opinion than me, AOG. I'm not shy of calling some opinions stupid if I think they are so, but unless they're about intervening or controlling my own life* I'm not irritated by the fact that they exist.

Despite the fact that we have a right-wing government, the British press is predominantly right-wing, and the US president is far-right, you and other right-wingers still seem determined to believe in the vague idea that there is some kind of sinister liberal cabal influencing society for the worse.

Yeah, celebrities tend to have a liberal bias because the entertainment industry as a whole tends to. This is not news. It also doesn't make a lick of difference. But you still seem to have some kind of problem with it. The tone of your question heavily implies that this is illegitimate or somehow suspicious. I don't understand what your problem is, except for the fact that there are some celebrities who have opinions that aren't yours.

*For example, people telling me I shouldn't be able to marry if I want to, that my lifestyle should be illegal, that it's "inappropriate" for me to show any sign of affection to my partner in public.
(If it wasn't clear already, my answer to AOG's question is "nothing".)
