Any solution (or attempted solution) will cost money. I'm not sure what your point is unless you have a miracle 'free' suggestion.....?
More money is the only answer to every problem, for certain problem solvers. Despite it making the situation worse in almost every case. Lack of imagination some would call it, deliberately embittering the problem some would call it.
Do you have a suggestion as to a cost free solution then Togo?
There isn’t a cost-free solution, but the money would be better spent on patrolling the Mediterranean more thoroughly and turning the boats back rather than conducting rescue missions.
I think the Libyan Coastguards are being trained to exactly that Naomi, but it isn't specific (even in the Lybia Herald link below) and the article does say The £170.5m will also help fund Operation Sophia - the EU’s joint naval operation to combat human and arms trafficking'

naomi beat me to it.

If the EU feels a benefit in resourcing Libya it ought to be for valid reasons other than paying them to fund coastguards that Libya already ought to have. The EU can fund their own coastguards, on patrol boats. (But they will have to be trained on identifying south, for when they need to tow any low quality boats they encounter, back to Libya.)

DB, from my Libya Herald link 'Minniti [Italian Interior Minister]pointed out that there was not an issue with Libya about repatriation. The migrants would not be sent back to Libya because they were not Libyans.'

mmm.

Would that be the money we the UK contribute to the EU? if it is, that money would be better spent on financing the NHS. at least doing that we could see "Some" difference, did the money collected years ago help Biafra?
I said on a thread earlier in the week that perhaps we should buy up all the boats, before the people smugglers can, and sink em. It was said tongue in check at the time, but I haven't since heard a more sensible strategy from the achingly serious brigade.
So, not a cost free solution then? You seem to be one of those 'certain problem solvers' Togo.
Zac seems to have plucked a phrase out of the ether to blow in and out on. Where apart from on your posts has "free" or a cost free solution been extolled?
Perhaps a radical idea might be, to refuse to spend £170 million on bribes to corrupt "officials" and spend it on say............................. effective Eu border controls.
Togo, your 11:29 post seems to strongly suggest that you oppose a 'paid for' solution. Have I got that wrong, and if so, would you mind clarifying your post?
//More money is the only answer to every problem, for certain problem solvers//

Note that important first word. Not spend the money already squandered more wisely ......just more money. The answer to any question is always more money, not more thought, or more accountability, or more effort, just more money. Like some wonder panacea. The solution of the unimaginative or idle, or both. Now where you get the impression that "More money is the only answer", strongly suggests that I oppose a "paid" for solution is another mystery to contemplate, although you constant reference to free solutions certainly isn't.
Ah i see......I think. So, other than your suggestions to buy up every boat and sink it, do you have any more sensible suggestions. Or was that it?
Well I thought that perhaps you might like to take a turn, after all I have made 2 suggestions. Then again like all who are themselves bereft of ideas or suggestions, you are keen to be critical of anyone who is prepared to explore for solutions. There used to be a word for that sort of attitude, escapes me for now though. Perhaps it will come to me as I take my stroll along the Prom. To coin a phrase "I'll be back". :))

You seem intent on constantly opposing other's views, but never seem to come up with any constructive solutions yourself.

What would you wish to see, no interference with these migrant's march into Europe?

If not, then what?

Togo

Well said, I saw your post after I had entered mine, but you hit the nail on the head, much better than I did.
AOG 'You seem intent on constantly opposing other's views'

Yes, it's called debate.

My views, if you read them carefully, suggest I do think money is the answer as I challenged both yourself and Togo.

I notice you haven't proffered any solutions yourself (free or otherwise!).
