Technically the BBC are right on that.

It is hardly surprising that the EU want this silenced and will do anything in their power to stop the truth of ISIS atrocities being shown.
It isn't a case of the BBC being careful, it's two fingers to them trying to claim to be a 'state'.
What happened to the term 'Daesh' which was in vogue a while ago?
This story smacks of the European Parliament being a little worried at Ml'P's success in running for president.
//With her conservative rival Francois Fillon facing an investigation into his family's use of parliamentary salaries and expenses, Thursday's decision leaves France in the unusual position of having two prominent candidates for the presidency facing the prospect of criminal prosecution.//

Once again the "legal" parasites are involved in politics. It is becoming more of a "feature" in all election campaigns, and even more so after a result is announced, throughout Europe and in the US. We should be very concerned. They will not go away, they will need to be discouraged somehow.

I am unsure why you think the EU would want IS silenced?

Plus, what do you think is actually gained by putting out graphic images of terrorism?

As far as I am concerned, telling me that a man was beheaded is more than enough - I have an imagination, I can visualise what that looks like, I don't need the image to improve my perception of it.

'They' wanted people to use Daesh to disassociate them from Islam.
(which is, of course, as they keep telling us 'the religion of peace')

If you have politicains breaking the law, then you have the law involved with politicians.

The term 'parasite' is simply a media cliché, it has no relevance here.
I think one has to look at the timing of this ruling quite carefully.

'Opinion polls suggest she is on course to win the first round in April'

Apparently not - "Daesh is an acronym. It stands for the Arabic name of the Islamic State: al-Dawla al-Islamiya fi al-Iraq wa al-Sham. When Jen Percy, a New Republic contributor, went to northern Iraq this year, the Assyrian Christians waging a war against ISIS were calling ISIS troops “Daesh.” In her article for our September issue, she called it “a pejorative term for ISIS in Arabic.”

Zeba Khan, writing for the Boston Globe, has explained why “Daesh” could be read as an insult: “Depending on how it is conjugated in Arabic, it can mean anything from ‘to trample down and crush’ to ‘a bigot who imposes his view on others.’”

In light of its more unsavory connotations, ISIS leaders threatened last June “to cut the tongue of anyone who publicly used the acronym Daesh, instead of referring to the group by its full name,” according to the Associated Press."
I'm well aware of why they said we should use it. I just happen to think they were being disingenuous.
As for the notion that IS would get a bit violent if we call them Daesh. Ha ha.
Samjenko - //I'm well aware of why they said we should use it. //

I suggest that saying -

"'They' wanted people to use Daesh to disassociate them from Islam. (which is, of course, as they keep telling us 'the religion of peace')"

shows that you don't.

Then you appear to have some difficulty with the English language.

/// 'They' wanted people to use Daesh to disassociate them from Islam. ///

And that is exactly why the BBC chose the words 'so called Islamic State' it had nothing to do with the usage of the word 'State' but everything to do with the word 'Islamic'.

The BBC do not wish to offend such a noble religion, now do they?
Samjenko - //Then you appear to have some difficulty with the English language. //

You posted as a fact the use of the term 'Daesh' as being used to disassociate ISIS from Islam.

I posted a piece pointing out that this is not correct.

You then stated that you were 'well aware' of the reason why the term was used.

I pointed out that posting an incorrect fact indicates that you are not aware at all.

How does that become my 'difficulty with the English language'?
AOG - //And that is exactly why the BBC chose the words 'so called Islamic State' it had nothing to do with the usage of the word 'State' but everything to do with the word 'Islamic'. //

You have managed to comprehensively misunderstand a simple fact, in order to shoehorn your contempt for Islam into your thread.

IS calls itself 'Islamic State'. It is not a state, so the BBC points that out in the interest of veracity - it has nothing at all to do with 'not wishing to offend anyone.

It's about truth and accuracy - you should try it.

A picture paints a thousand words....

I never had you down as an inhabitant of cliché-ville.
AOG, you're twisting of the facts to meet your own ends is quite incredulous. What would you have the BBC say? 'So called barbaric terrorist instigators state'?
It's all there in black and white, Andy. I'm quite happy to stand by everything I said.
And repeat, it is you that doesn't understand.
