“The SNP’s founders were united over self-determination in principle.”
The quote above is from Wikipedia’s article on the SNP and shows that independence has been its (obvious) underlying principle for 83 years.
The SNP was founded in 1934 and Nicola Sturgeon was born in 1970, so there is no sensible justification for the acrimonious comments on her leadership – and personality – specifically. The only mystery is why her most vociferous critics are often from the same ‘team’ as the one that venerates Thatcher, of all people!
Thanks, TTT, for at least acknowledging that Scots would be perfectly capable of running an independent Scotland. To imagine otherwise, given their contributions to the benefit of the entire UK over the centuries of Union is borderline irrational!
Murraymints, you keep making the same errors as regards the income from oil, whisky etc, imagining - as you clearly do - that because foreign companies are involved the nation gets very little from it. Where on earth do you imagine the UK has been getting major income from, if not from these foreign companies for the past half century?
If Scotland were independent, revenues from these sources would go directly into Scotland's Treasury. The rest of the UK would get NO income from oil in the North Atlantic or the “far” North Sea…the only sea areas with real future promise…or from any Scottish whisky distillery.
