Terrible.
Check before Tweeting.
Can of worms opened. Judge must be a half-wit.

And its a YES from me as well !

Will she ever learn ?
Judge has ruled that you can't publish defamatory lies about someone and expect to get away with it.

Good judgement.
I hate to admit to having anything in common with Ms. Hopkins, but if you shoot from the lip and are seriously opinionated and like a fight, as we both do, then occasionally things go seriously wrong.

The differences between us are rather more marked and numerous though I am glad to say -

When I post my opinions, I do so on here, and I don't libel anyone and I don't spit unprovoked poison at people to earn a living, and get paid a massive wedge for doing it. My writing is confined to music magazines, and is far less inflammatory and opinionated than Ms. Hopkins' daily output.

The problem for Ms. Hopkins is that, like me she gets carried away on her keyboard, the difference is, she is a high profile hate-baiter and as such has fallen foul of the law, and being royally clobbered for doing it.

No doubt she will regard this as an occupational hazard of her dubious trade, and may even think it enhances her reputation as someone who 'tells it like it is' - translation - 'I like being really rude to people for money.'
She mixed up two hideous Guardian harridans. Hardly a crime.
Samjenko - //Can of worms opened. Judge must be a half-wit. //

The judge hears a case under the Libel legislation of this country, and decides that the law has been broken, and awards accordingly.

Where does the 'half-wit' part come into that?
Samjenko - //She mixed up two hideous Guardian harridans. Hardly a crime. //

Actually - it's not the mix up that's the crime.

Being a 'hideous Guardian harridan' (nice!) is not illegal - spreading malicious falsehoods is.
This was a tweet, andy, not an article.

Monroe gave Hopkins the opportunity to recant and apologise, but she refused, and now she is paying the penalty.

Ghastly woman, IMHO.
Yes it was a Tweet, as a Journalist she should check before Tweeting.
samjenko - Just because you hold a serious amount of antipathy for Laurie Penny and Jack Monroe it doesn't mean that KH is at liberty to defame one even if she did mistake her for the other.
Hope Monroe hangs on to her cash. She'll be needing it to pay out all the people she's maligned on twitter.
Samjenko - //This was a tweet, andy, not an article. //

The libel law applies to the printed word - your point is?
If the people Monroe has apparently maligned decide to sue her for any malicious falsehoods....I shall be happy to congratulate them, too.

Personalities aside, the correct result.
