He is a hard-line Islamist trying to gradually 'convert' a liberal country. He has made peace with Russia (which is attacking an Islamic country) - wet towel round head time. I suspect that he is looking to a sort of alliance with Russia around his area and seeking a power-base there.

Erdogan is a dictator, and what he is doing to Turkey is very sad to witness.
We should be sending the strongest signals to Ankara that we disapprove.

The Dutch are not to be messed with tho - when you think of the influence a country of that size has had on the world. Must be high on the all time league table of influence-to-size rankings.

one of the metaphors used in the current press for the war period - is German embrace....occupation wasnt that bad for them ( except the starvation winter 1944-45 and the events following the milk-staken )
winter war - or wintersoorlog ( I think ) is worth a look
