I live there and its brilliant, just the traffic needs sorting out, plenty of places to eat and drink with waterside bars and restaurants, a brilliant night life, great history and lots of green spaces, loads of festivals throughout the year. Dave.

Dave has it right I have friends in near-by Portishead and we often gone into Bristol over the years. Yes, the traffic is dreadful, and no mistake.
But its got all the shops and entertainment you could need, its got great transport links, with the M4 and M5 so close, and its only about 2 hours to Cornwall !
Was brought up there, in facr typing from there right now. Was just discussing lunchtime what a pig's ear they made of the centre and how useful the flyover used to be. Pavements seem to have loads of gum spots too, and graffiti is everywhere. But still worth visiting.
OG \\But what takes the biscuit is the frustrating 20mph everywhere in order to get decent folk into trouble.//
That was George Ferguson along with his residents parking permits which stopped people parking outside their house, he forgot that on the website of the tobacco factory(an entertainment venue) of which he is an owner said" there is plenty of parking on the roads and streets nearby"
I have been attending regular meetings, in a Hotel right next to St Marys Redcliffe, ( the Doubletree ) and if the flyover was still there, it would have saved a fair amount of time !
