Personally I think she was right not to.

It is not the time to be harping about human rights we need the business and the Saudis would just ignore it anyway meaning we would only get their backs up. The idea we would tie human rights to trade deals WE want is fanciful.

So, Mrs May not wearing the headscarf is a good way of showing them how we in the West (excepting our new arrivals of course) treat women as equals. it a is a subtle and clear message to human rights.

No, she is our PM and represents our government. She and the Queen should not wear a headscarf with the Saudi leaders - and also the Pope....the exception being to allow for representation in a major mosque or cathedral, that is a mark of respect for their religion - and not the politics.

The problem that I have found when I go to SA is that nobody can make up their mind what women should wear. I always have to wear an abaya but sometimes I have to wear the headscarf and sometimes not. Apparently, the King is quite liberal but of course, the religious police tend to override him. I guess Theresa May doesn't have that problem.
