South Wales East AM Mark Reckless set to quit UKIP

Last of the two Tory MPs that Farage poached in 2014, is set to go return back to his roots. At this rate, UKIP will be just a dim, unpleasant memory. Good riddence !

The Labour Party was actually founded in 1900, but speaking of the 1920s perhaps, like UKIP, Labour has had its day and is now surplus to the requirements of the electorate.
// perhaps, like UKIP, Labour has had its day and is now surplus to the requirements of the electorate.//

hmm political parties serving the people
I wonder if tony blair knew all that
interesting idea - when did THAT start .....

lol Peter !
Mikey, are you denying that the Labour Party served the working man well - in its day?
The fact is that Labour with them having the second largest number of MP's in the House of Commons is therefore the official Opposition party The unfortunate truth with that is that as long as Jeremy Corbyn is leader they have no chance of being elected in 2020.If Labour could find themselves a leader who could make us believe they could run the country then 2020 is still far enough away.Sadly I don't think this will happen especially if that dinosaur Len McCluskey remains as general secretary of Unite and thus props up Corbyn for his own ends.
UKIP won't disappear because they are a rallying point for people who are cross about things. Who feel that "the people" are not being listened to. A few years ago a handful of unhappy people founded the party and their rallying cry was "it's all gone pear-shaped because of our ties to Europe (and further more our pears are being forced into the shape "They" want)". More or less by accident, in recent years they've found themselves as the amateur players on stage with the mic suddenly being listened to, not least because they had a reasonably artiuclate and bright leader with a good line in patter who successfully conned a lot of people into thinking that he was a "man of the people" but also because of a wider feeling of discontent and disconnect with the "powers that be". Now, however, that it looks as though the scapegoat of Europe is about to be removed from the equation, they will need to have something or someone else to blame for life's ills, and the question is what? There will be something, you may be sure. Part of the problem for "populist" movements like UKIP is that they can indeed become very factional (they have that in common with parties of the far left): people disagree on their interpretation of what "the people" are really wanting ("the people" rarely speak with one voice anyway) so that's hardly surprising. I believe that the party's founder left or was expelled, and there have been a succession of splits and flounces in their history. The latest significant schism looks like being the sinister figure of Arron Banks, who looks like he is going to follow in the tradition of the party and leave to form his own offshoot. Meanwhile comparatively sensible politicians like Carswell and Reckless have looked at it and probably wisely thought: mission accomplished, better off out of it.

Some people tell me that they will still vote UKIP, despite the act that it will be a wasted vote....some people like making futile gestures it would seem. It gives them a warm feeling all over.
You could be describing Labour voters, mikey.
-- answer removed --
Neddie & Dave, shirley.
perhaps they have served their purpose, considering the job done..
"UKIP will be just a dim, unpleasant memory" - perhaps, and it must stick in your craw somewhat being a labour man, but they have been the most successful party in history having achieved their aim, barely entering parliament, they can slip into obscurity knowing their place in history is secured. Never mind mikey, Labour will make a comeback in 2040 when they once again learn to be Tories.
mikey: "Some people tell me that they will still vote UKIP, despite the act that it will be a wasted vote." - as will a Labour vote me old china!

Mar Reckless, the serial traitor :::::

Don't worry, you've still got Neil Hamilton!
Question Author
I notice that most people on here have used this thread as an excuse to have a go at Labour, and also at me. Personally I couldn't give a stuff, as I have broad shoulders !

But I also notice that nobody is attempting to defend the UKIP traitors !

As regards Hamilton....UKIIP is the only Party that were willing to touch him with the proverbial barge pole. He couldn't get back in the Tory Party if he got down on his knees and begged Mrs May

( an unedifying sight if ever there was one ! )
Mikey, //I also notice that nobody is attempting to defend the UKIP traitors ! //

I really don't think anyone here cares about what's happening to UKIP as much as you do. That could be why no one is attempting to defend the 'traitors'.
Mikey if you want UKIP to sink into obscurity which I believe you do, why do you keep posting about them?
Question Author
Ladybirder....to remind UKIP's friends here on AB, that they are sinking into obscurity !
Has other posters have mentioned, mikey.
It matters not now, mission has ( almost ) been accomplished.
