But animals have a way of dodging speeding traffic with much more agility than their owners.

The only reason I would jump in front of a speeding lorry is if it was to push one of my children out of the way.

I'm sure that will be a great comfort to her family

I'm sure it won't Zac.

But some people seem to care as much for their animals as other people do their children.
Well I guess your better than them then eh?
I would have done the same as the women ( though I'm sure the exact details are as yet unknown)
i confess i wouldn't have got out of a car on a motorway, what was she thinking. sorry that she has lost her life, but does seem rather strange. as you say we don't know the full details.
I think if you owned a pet that got into that situation you might very well do the same without thinking, same as those who jump in the sea and lakes for their pets. I think I would. Condolences to her family.
I think that people act instinctively in situations like this.

When dogs fall into water they have a good chance of survival due to their higher body temperature - but at the time you just don't think.

My rescue dog chased/annoyed a swan one day and as the swan came swooping towards him I got between them. Robbie was very brave, standing behind me barking his head off and someone shooed the swan away. But the bird was huge and would have injured me (not the quivering hound) with one punch (?) from a wing (or whatever they use)

It is a sad outcome in this case
What did you expect the swan to do wolf, you admitted your dog chased/annoyed it ??

Feel dreadfully sorry for this woman and her family, but I too would have done the same. It's what you do if you love your pet.
Tragic but you act on the spur on the moment - very sad.
Tragic affair. My thoughts are with her family
hereIam

I expected the swan might do exactly what it did do. It had been a bit off shore and Robbie had been running along the edge barking.

I should have grabbed him and dragged him off, or you would rather that I allow the swan to attack him and one of both getting injured.

My post was about my spur of the moment reaction - I called him back, he hid behind me and I attempted to protect him. It was a stupid thing to do - but nobody got hurt.
I got the impression from your post that you were more annoyed with the swan than your dog, who started it !! Of course I wouldn't have rather the swan attacked, what a silly thing to say ...
I bet the driver of the van is devastated too ..
This is a sad story, hard to know what I would do in the same situation.
I don't think we do know until that split second arrives.
She must have had the window open fairly wide for it to jump out. Where does it say what happened to the dog?
OP's link

//The pet was also killed after running on to the motorway from its owner's Volkswagen Golf at about 18:20 BST on Friday near Cardiff Gate services.//
So it does. Read it again before I posted as well. Obviously not concentrating properly or going gaga. Or both. Sorry Mamy:-(
You don't know how you'd react in the heat of the moment.
