I wish they would stick to their job of education and leave the parenting to the parents.... what they eat, haircuts, clothing, vaccinations, weighing, measuring...

Yes I agree the council should provide special school buses, just like the yellow American ones.

Depends on the age range of the children. It does also depend of how far people live from the school or if there are reasons to collect, such as going somewhere else after school but as a general rule I would say Seniors can walk or catch the bus unaccompanied cars not needed, juniors can also walk but may need to be accompanied and infants will always need to be accompanied.
I live in a cul de sac that has a senior school at the end and it is a nightmare. We don't go out when they are due in or at the end of the school day. We had restricted lines put on the road but because there are only about half a dozen parking inforcement officials they only come round once a year so no point in having lines. The school also stopped cars going in or out of the school at these times. They have a huge car park as well so it has just pushed the problem out into the community.
For the most part it is laziness. The school buses even wait in the school so there is not much excuse.

Yest another reason why local authorities should be abolished.
Leaving aside the practicalities of enforcing such a ban, just what else do this interfering busybodies want to involve themselves in next?
I'll tell you what; yesterday I read another local authority plans to charge parents £2 a day "corkage" for allowing pupils to eat their own lunch in school. This is to cover "cleaning and supervision" costs. So, a tenner a week to allow little Johnny to eat his peanut butter sandwich. They simply don't know what aspect of people's lives to involve themselves in next.
