Chokes on my tea at that one :-)
"You may wish to bring up Finland"
Very generous of you, but I think I'd prefer to bring up Estonia, for example.
I was, also, limiting myself to Putin's Russia, but happy to broaden it :-)

"he accepted the conveyance of the former DDR from the Warsaw Pact to NATO on the West's promise that it would not advance further towards them, which was an enormous gesture, and which has been, and still is being continuously violated."
Ii think you'll find in any case that Putin was busy with the KGB and the Stasi round about Berlin Wall time and the end of the DDR. I don't blame him for being miffed about the dissolution of his carefully assembled police state apparatus of course.
The idea that NATO is "advancing" on Russia is nonsense. It is true that countries close to the former Soviet Union have joined, but you can't rerally blame them. Look at the countries that have not joined: Moldova, Georgia - both divided and destabilised - and in the case of Georgia openly invaded - ditto Ukraine: invaded from the south and the east. But these incursions of course do not count ...

Oh! hang on,............ "Mar 30, 2017 - THE BBC has been accused of Brexit scaremongering over a storyline involving farming and Brexit. ... The storyline was touched upon in a conversation between two of the show's most popular characters Alistair and Shula. ... Should the BBC be more positive about Brexit?"
Hmmmm!

It's an exciting race in France, what with M Melenchon creeping up on the rails. The last poll showed only 3 per cent between the top 4 candidates.
Le Pen may actually have lost support to Melenchon, odd as it may seem. She has made a big drive for the working class vote, at the expense of many of the middle classes who might otherwise have been tempted.
One thing is sure: the next President's name will end in N :-)

I don't think one should take much notice of the polls. Like Brexit and Trump, a large number of the 'don't knows' actually do know, but are not keen on being public about it, what they mark in the ballot box is what counts.*
* Except in Turkey!
Did anyone btw notice the hilarious shot of Erdogan voting? He went into the booth and actually drew the curtain behind him so no one could see for whom he was voting! :0)
