/// Yvette Cooper, Labour chairman of the Commons' Home Affairs Select Committee, vowed to hold ministers to account over the shambles. ///

If Labour were in government, could we depend on them to sort this matter out? And I don't mean by granting all these illegals citizenship.

AOG...make your mind up...is this a question about Mrs May's Government, or what the Labour Party would do if in power ?

Lets presume its the 1st. The Tories have been in power for nearly 7 years, so if we do have too many people claiming asylum, than it can hardly be the fault of Labour, can it ?
this is the fault of all governments in the last 40 years. The only EU law that actually helps us is the only one we don't enforce. We are quite happy to enforce all the loony outpourings of the EEC/EC/EU but when one is tailor made for us we ignore it, Madness.
Labour wouldn't sort out this hot potato, no more than the Tories are doing. Perhaps they feel that other matters are taking precedence like Brexit, which is going to take up much of the next Parliament.

It is about both, seeing that Labour have poked their nose in.

I thought when I added the Yvette Cooper comment, this would be a little hard for you to answer.

But true to form you have responded in exactly the way that I thought you would, and that was by only addressing the "lets have another go at the Tories" one.

Can you now address my second question, "If Labour were in government, could we depend on them to sort this matter out?"

no they wouldn't, no more than the current lot can.

I am only AB's resident DM 'would be reporter, and not a politician.

But if I were a politician, I would be expected to carry out the wishes of those who helped to put me in power.

That's a matter of opinion

AOG what would be your ideal solution to this problem?
Difficult to answer this question, because a) it's based on a hypothetical, and b) the 'statistics' come from Migrationwatch. Best to treat output from this group with a pinch of salt.
"...the 'statistics' come from Migrationwatch. Best to treat output from this group with a pinch of salt."

Why?
// AOG...make your mind up...is this a question about Mrs May's Government, or what the Labour Party would do if in power ?// M

answer both parts Mikey
concentrating on the fact you know is not true but has been told it is. In this case that the Tories are not in power but Labour it

also take into account of the case where Den Xiao Ping ( yes I know he is dead but we have just done Easter) has married Mrs May and is in No 10....
actually I know what Deng would do
off to concentration camps all of them and sell their organs .....
lay off the steam tugs PP
Because it does not suit SP's agenda NJ.

The Government needs to get to grips with it. Yes, past Governments have caused the problem but we are where we are and need to move forward.
