Smart a*** eh?
That's your opinion of someone who reads the full article before commenting, Young?...
I see she supports increased stop and search powers for the police, that should please the OP.
What's the problem?

Would people be getting their knickers in a twist if she'd said she was in a relationship with a man called Henry?
Well SP, I'd certainly think twice about getting involved with someone called Henry; even if they were more commonly known as Harry!
No, we don't, although the DM seems to think its terribly important....I wonder why ?
She has been wise enough to be open about things to save some grubby hands having to rifle through her dustbins.
well that is another name off your possibles-to-wed list AOG

at least you didnt say that she was a happily married housewife with three lovely children ( extensively denied in column three)

and also AOG I can hardly believe that you are accusing the DM of publishing not news but needless smut. We havent had any below-the-waist about Troylus and Cressida erm such as.....
Who's your Troylus, Cressida ?

The common curse of mankind, folly and ignorance, be thine in great revenue! (Thersites, Act 2 Scene 3)
erm could apply to all of us !

My money is on this - she was asked about whether she was in a relationship, possibly because of rumours that already exist, and in order to put paid to them, she simply answered honestly.

The result of that is some people (oddly) start saying, "Why do we need to know about this?"

I always find it odd, because these same people don't post, "Why do we need to know about Theresa May being married to a man?"

I suspect it's because of issues they have due to...I dunno. I'm stumped.

No-one my age group and younger can figure that one out.

It's a mystery.
Notice how one line from a whole series of interviews is the one thing that the DM has focussed on in its headline, and this is what the narrative has now become.

As far as I can tell from the meat of this story, she has the potential to be a rather good commissioner.
//No-one my age group and younger can figure that one out. //

That is because no-one of your age group can appreciate how someone in another age group might feel. Pretty much the same as the older age group not being able to appreciate the way your age group thinks.

No - we can't understand the sheer hypocrisy. Theresa May was interviewed with her husband last year and I don't recall anyone making a big deal that she was in relationship with a man.
sp, that is what I am saying, you are only capable of seeing it as sheer hypocrisy, whereas some from another generation don't see it that way. I wouldn't worry, you are not alone, as you say most of your generation can only see things the way they want to see them.
Garman

What else is it, if not hypocritical?

Isn't that inarguable?

If Comissioner Dick mentioned in an interview that she is in relationship with someone called Henry, and those who ask "Do we really need to know this?" remain silent, aren't they being hypocrites, no matter what your views are?
No, that wouldn't be hypocrisy, sp.

One good thing though...generations to come won't be so hung up on things like this.

It's a bit like when Thatcher became PM. That was a big news story for quite some time, because she was the first female Prime Minister.

However, once people got used to that, we could focus on what she did, rather than what she was.

Same thing has happened with gay people and the younger demographic.

Younger people haven't grown up in a country where being gay could land you in jail, so their relationship to gay people is completely different to those of previous generations.

That will be a great thing.
Garaman 14:41, very well said.
good for her, i hope she makes a decent job of it.
//One good thing though...generations to come won't be so hung up on things like this. //

You are still not grasping this, sp. Each generation experiences a different set of morals etc when growing up, and not everyone switches their moral code to that of the next generations as they age. You are right that the future generations probably won't be hung up on this matter, but when you are the older generation there may well be things the younger generation are doing that you will be uncomfortable with. That is how it works I'm afraid.
“I always find it odd, because these same people don't post, "Why do we need to know about Theresa May being married to a man?"”

We don’t need to know. And it's unlikely the question would be asked because as far as I know, Mrs May did not specifically mention that she was married to a man in an interview with the Evening Standard. Ms Dick did, hence the question.
