..so many problems in the USA?

I have read in the past, they use three different drugs, to end the prisoners life, one after another, yet as mentioned in the link, he convulsed for 20 seconds.

I am sure there are reasons, but wouldn't a high dose of the drug that we are given for an operation work?

it seems there is no certain way by lethal injection that the prisoner doesn't die immediately, i don't know enough about what they use, but did you note the reason for the executions was put down to the fact that the lethal injection drug date was going to expire, so they had a long spate of putting to death those on death row, some had been there for years.
not that i have a deal of sympathy for murderers and rapists, but there must be a better method of despatch than lethal injection.

I agree. Why is it so difficult to put a person down painlessly when it is done on a daily basis to sick animals?

The problem is that the companies that produce the drugs can be sued for $millions compensation if the execution goes wrong and they will not take the risk. So they are refusing to supply it.

Thats a very good point Donny, and going back to what I said about the drugs we are given for an op, the surgeons can move your insides all about, amputate an arm or leg, but you dont feel it.

Although I am an advocate of capital punishment there is something very unseemly about Arkansas's decision to execute as many as possible before the drug passes its use-by date.

I can't feel sorry for these people ,so he convulsed for 20 seconds ,what about the pain and terror he put his victims through .the only people I feel for are the doctors who have to administer the drugs .

The drugs given to the people who go to Dignitas seem to be easy to administer and very effective.

Doctors do not administer the drugs. They may be in attendance but take no part in the process.

mallyh, absolutely and if they were not caught would have carried on doing such vile acts, pity it's taken so long execute them, rope or bullet would have been quicker.

A couple of points
Doctors CAN NOT help to kill people! It is against the hippocratic oath. Any doctor assisting an execution would be instantly banned from practicing medicine for life!
Assisted suicide clinics give a large overdose of morphine , it MUST be taken from the staff who prepare it ,held and drunk voluntarily by the patient, NO HELP AT ALL IS PERMITTED ! Patients MUST be 'of sound mind' and be fully aware of what they are doing and want to do it. They must be able to take the morphine from the staff who prepare it , hold it and then drink it without any help. Very infirm people who can not hold a cup and drink from it without help can not use assisted suicide. this is why people travel to the clinics before they get too sick to feed themselves with the drink.
Two independent witnesses( not friends or relatives of the patient or members of the staff) have to testify that the conditions have been complied with.
Again no doctor can assist in any way without being struck off.
If the company that supplies drugs used to put animals down supplied them for executing humans , they could be sued for damages if anything went wrong.
They can't use anesthetics because again they have to be given by a medically qualified person who is bound again by the oath not to use their skills to end life.

One State at least has reintroduced firing squads! The firing squad members must be unpaid volunteers and they have to supply their own weapons and ammunition. I heard there was no shortage of volunteers!

dignitas roughly charge almost £20.000 or near for their service, thats a lot of dosh, imagine someone without funds in a similar position

In a country, where millions of people who enjoy killing things, and own many millions of guns, I fail to see why States that still have the death penalty don't just use firing squads......they shouldn't have any difficulty in recruiting people to do the killing after all.

It takes a certain mindset to be an executioner, as well as a great deal of skill, to be able to dispatch someone swiftly and painlessly. Albert Pierrepoint was supreme in his field.

We all know that a doctor will occasionally prescribe a rather larger dose of morphine than is strictly necessary to control pain in a patient's final hours, but it is only done if there is no possibility of recovery.
