Is it not time for Sadiq Khan and the police to do more, should there be more patrols and stop and searches.

Whilst I agree that education is part of the answer, in these areas with gang mentality it is not the only one. Carrot and stick is required. Stop and search, long mandatory jail sentences just for carrying the offensive weapon and three strikes and you are out.

Stop and search.....it's cos I'm black innit. Sorry not PC, don't you know?

So it's ok for people to keep on dying then David?
Good grief Baldric I was being sarcastic.....
The answer is to educate young disaffected men that gang culture, and 'respect' (i.e. carrying and being willing to use a lethal weapon) are not the way to grow up - but that takes time and money, and therefore politicians are less interested.

A surge in stop-and-search may put a sticking plaster over the issue, but it won't solve it in the long term.

More stop and searches in the areas where knife crime is most frequent, and no pussy footing about if one is caught carrying a knife, 10 years min.
"The answer is to educate young disaffected men that gang culture, and 'respect' (i.e. carrying and being willing to use a lethal weapon) are not the way to grow up".... no chance of that happening until the law goes zero tolerance on knife offences!
why dont we just shoot them on sight ?
erm yes that was another sarcastic one

stop and search doesnt work according to this
https://www.theguardian.com/law/2016/mar/17/mass-stop-and-search-police-crime-study

In order to address an issue like this, it is necessary to be aware of the psychology involved, and to work around it.

For disaffected young men who find their missing sense of identity and belonging in a gang culture, the notion of stop-and-search simply underlines their 'outlaw' status, simultaneously excluding them further from mainstream society, and bonding them with their surrogate family and support system - their gang.

The idea that these young men make the connection between knife crime and prison is simply not viable - that this the thinking of a mature member of society - these young men are neither of those.

Education is the way forward, but it needs to start with a sense of self-respect and respect for others in nursery school, and on from there, and as I have opined many times, no government will invest in the money needed because this is a long-term solution, and governments want four-year results for their actions, to assist them in future elections.
