Europol chief Rob Wainwright says ''the world faced an escalating threat, and there was concern about the level of potential attacks on Monday morning.''

How the hell would anyone know when further attacks are going to occur?

Well someone must know.
I wonder who?
Bet their in California.
They're !
'Potential' means 'possibly, maybe', so it looks as if the boffins don't believe that they are finished with the hackers just yet.
I’ve often wondered what would happen to the world if all our computers were suddenly rendered useless. Quite a scary thought. Just musing though.

It's not so much 'new attacks' as people turning on vulnerable computers when they get to work on Monday and falling victim to the current Wanna Crypt attack.

If I still had a system using Windows XP (I don't), I'd be turning off all internet access until each and every PC and laptop had been checked, backed-up and patched after people got to work on Monday.
^ I've often thought the same. We are totally dependant on them now.
A major change from as little as 10 years ago!
Microsoft issued a patch for this virus earlier in the year – but if the patch was not implemented by company IT staff, come Monday morning there could be many more organisations affected.

Support for XP ended in 2014, so this operating system is particularly vulnerable to the wanna crypt virus.

Adding to what sunny-dave says, I wonder if it would be prudent not to boot-up your works PC on Monday morning, at least until the IT guys have advised that it is safe to do so.
Any company that takes this seriously, will have their IT people in the Office as early as possible on Monday morning....long before the rest of the staff arrive.

Me too

I mean just imagine not knowing what ABers were having for dinner?
I’m normally in the office before 07:00, IT might not arrive until gone 9.
Perfect excuse for a lie-in tomorrow, then.
Talbot, It doesn't bear thinking of.
Roast pork :-)
If I can keep my wholly-unimportant-in-the-grand-scheme-of-things PC updated with the latest security patches you'd think the NHS could do the same. Maybe this, finally, will shock everyone into taking this sort of thing seriously.
Fair enough. Even cyber attackers are entitled to have the weekend off.
It's not that attacks will start on Monday it's that most office computers are shut down over the weekend. When they are started up again on Monday morning is when they will find the damage if any.
Well I did a full malware scan before I opened my browser this morning and all is well. Anyone had a problem?
