As an English teacher, if I somehow became aware of the A-level question paper and used that to teach my students to do well; I think I would (if found-out) be barred from teaching exam level at the very least. I certainly would not have kept my job, no matter how good I was at teaching English It's called cheating.

Any teacher found guilty of misconduct on the job would normally be no less intellectually capable of teaching after the event as when given the job in the first instance. I don't know, jourdain, if in your capacity as English teacher you were a leading authority on Dickens, accidentally teaching a work by Thackeray instead wouldn't lessen your ability to discuss Dickens. People make mistakes, which may damage their reputation but doesn't necessarily affect their knowledge.
