Are you seriously suggesting that the council should have put the possible effect on property prices above their duty , yes legal DUTY! , to rehouse their tenants whose housing had been destroyed by fire !

“Some property owners in the West Ken area are enjoying value rises of around £10,000 + per week....”
Really? The average price of a property in West Kensington, according to Foxtons, is £647,000, with a range going up to £1.45m for a 5 bedroom home:
https:/ /www.fo xtons.c o.uk/li ving-in /west-k ensingt on/hous e-price s/
Let’s be generous for the sake of this argument and say “some property owners” might have homes worth £2m. A rise of £10k per week, or £520,000 per year, equates to an annual rise of 26%. According to the same source, property prices have increased in that area by 12.32% over the past two years:

So how are “some property owners” seeing the value of their property rise by four times what is published? A few sums need to be done, I think, before such sensationalist headlines are taken as read.

naomi I do not need to 'put words in your mouth' you are quite able to do it yourself, This is one of your answers>
''Krom, I don’t believe in creating problems to solve problems. Of course these people must be housed but they don’t have to be housed in an expensive block of flats Kensington, regardless of what it means to the property owners there. There are other empty properties available in and around London - and for anyone who doesn't work in London and has no other valid reason to remain in London, in other places around the country''
I see that as meaning that you are more concerned about the effect on property values in Kensington than you are about rehoming the tenants who have been displaced by a terrible fire that should never have been allowed to happen!
I also ask you to refer to your post of 15.58 on the 24th , which also backs up my contention.

gness, Me, silly? Don’t be silly!
//I just don't understand mean spirited, selfish folk//
Me neither. You know… those who would, without a second thought for the damage caused, seriously blight the lives of people who have done nothing to warrant it.
Eddie, I know what I said, I meant what I said, and what you ‘contend’ is of no interest to me. As someone who rents, how easy it is for you to say it doesn’t matter if people who are often working and struggling to meet mortgage payments, are, through no fault of their own, suddenly plunged into a nightmare world where they’re paying far in excess of what their property is worth. It’s never going to happen to you though, so you’re alright Jack! You can afford the pious outpourings!

Just catching up with the UK news.......not seen much TV lately....
A short interview with a chap whose wife and two children are missing.......I guess their bodies are in the tower block...but hey....be a *** to have him living next door wouldn't it.....
To be honest, Naomi....I'd feel a darn sight more blighted to have you living near me.

Gness says it for me at 16.24.
The properties won't devalue though, will they? Short term lets, say six months, until permanent new homes can be found. No doubt council indemnities regarding damage, utility bills etc. The owners will presumably get some sort of rent and council tax paid. Any property that is for sale would probably be exempt. One year on, survivors of the disaster moved out, value should be back where it was.

I have one spare bedroom......I don't like visitors but if somebody was in need of a home I would do it...
I have done it just once before with a homeless couple for a few months.......deep down I find it hard to share my space with anyone....but if I decide to do it then I do it with grace, care and humour....x
