Every councillor who was in office when all the decisions on cladding was made? The building company? The architects? The people who said the cladding was safe?

Anyway there has to be an intent to kill for a charge of murder. Surely it would be man slaughter?

Engaging with the youth and getting 'down with the kids' at Glastonbury is surly the best place to have political debates nowadays???

Until the enquiries have reached a conclusion no one knows who is responsible. But someone is, and maybe more that one person/group.
I don't think McDonnell is right here.

But those residents of Grenfell Tower were badly served by local and Westminster politicians. And yes, architects and those responsible for overseeing fire regs. as well.

As I have already said, all this will come out in the Enquiry, but it will probably be years before we have the conclusion.
"Murder" is probably hyperbole to get folk emotional.
Never hurts to pick up the naive vote.
yes you are right cassa
there has to be intention to do really serious harm

there ar also issues about causation

but really he was doing a political discussion ....
He's trying to gain political kudos.
Murder means the person set out to kill the people / person involved.

So there is no way any one involved set out to murder people.

Manslaughter maybe but murder no.

Yet again Corbyn and his mob "ambulance chasing", latching on to various tragedies to try to get in to power.

Shameful.

Exactly. Saying that the people were manslaughtered by political decisions doesn't sound as snappy or emotive.
At least McDonnell said "Going back decades", unlike slimy John Healey on the R4 Today program this morning who, while disagreeing with the word "Murder", would have you believe it was all the fault of the current Tory government and nothing to do with him despite the fact that he was Housing Minister 2009-2010 and, before that, Minister for Local Government.

Committees which approved the cladding will have been informed that it met BS for safety (according to my reading). So not their fault.
British Standards, I know nil about. I assume that 'Jezza'will continue to ride the wave - which will peter out eventually. If not, wwe are sunk.
The Mens Rea for murder is intent to kill or intent to cause GBH. Intent has a wider meaning in this context; if the outcome was reasonably foreseeable it was intended.
He is speaking figuratively to make a point.
There is a very high chance that manslaughter charges will be made, the police investigations are well under way!
I am sure that a coroner's jury will bring in a verdict of 'unlawfully killed' . This is what happened when a full inquest was finally allowed ( after 28 years) on the Hillsborough deaths. The Hillsborough public enquiry was a joke with the police being ordered to lie and given prepared statements to read out as if they were their own note books.

Plus he had the cheek to sing tragedy in a godawful false falsetto.
Or was that Barmy Glib?
