Islay seems to think that you cannot be a hero if you are in a job where you know the risks, which would preclude any member of the armed forces from receiving a medal for bravery.

Well I can see exactly we're Islay is coming from and tend to agree with her and her logic.
Where not we're
Wow, I thought this thread would be one of united praise
I don't think I can ever be accused of fawning but this bloke is a hero in my book.

I can't speak for anyone else on here but I am most certainly not "fawning".
In debates like this I always find it useful to refer to a reputable dictionary.

from oxforddictionaries.com

// A person who is admired for their courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. //

He's a hero, as covered by the first 8 words of the definition. Anyone who disagrees should take it up with oxfordictionaries.com.
Of course he's a hero and a good man too.
// if only he had a taser as well as his baton//

.... or a gun !

the civil bravery awards were published
majority honoured were - 2014 - tunis I think

whereas the bottom shufflers and tea drinkers in whitehall get one every year......
A wonderfully brave young man and a credit to the force.
Well said Mamya

I hope he makes a full recovery, as well as some form of award for his bravery.
I'm just going to agree with Mamya & alba above.

groundhog day - havent we had a thread already where the lay-deeze of AB united and said it as the most natural thing for them to do was to throw crates tables and a bicycle at said stabbers just as the romanian waiter did ? ( only being british they wold throw harder)

so I can tell you we have a knitting circle somewhere in AB of armachair heroines somewhere .... waiting to strike !
( or as Nigh so often says - I could be making it up)

the contrast ( didnt I say this before ? ) with 2005 could not be more stark - where the Br T P locked themselves into their headquarters and wouldnt come out - and the firemen refused to go into the tunnels because it was not safe

http://webarchive.nationalarchives.gov.uk/20120216072441/http://7julyinquests.independent.gov.uk/hearing_transcripts/index.htm

depressing read - q.was it dangerous to go into the tunnel
A. it had not been cleared
q. were people walking OUT of the tunnel ?
A yes
q did they say - there are people dying back there ?

oh whilst I am about it again
it was David Davis who pointed out in 2005 that the mismatch between what the people were saying and what the govt was saying was so great there should be in inquiry ( refused )
Inquests 5-6 years later by the way

and ten years later David David is min for Brexit
and inquiry announced and
judge hops onto the tube to Latimer Road today !
There must be some connection

( that comment for slow readers was about inquiries after disasters)
Care to rephrase PP to make your reply comprehensible?
What the hell you on about PP?
