Nasty!

I did think Sellafield may have been the most dangerous plant but there you go ;-)

So true agchristie
Looks absolutely dreadful. But don't understand why only now is it a threat to health. Has it only just been imported or has it only recently arrived? We've had 'heat-waves' before.
It has been a growing nuisance it was introduced as an ornamental plant in the 19Th Century - horrible thing.
^ since it was introduced.

There are warnings about it almost every year.
Thanks for the link Quangoid.
Not aware of this before and it looks awful.

The wounds it leaves are reminiscent of "Triffid" wounds.
scooping
no it was a problem around twenty years ago
import of course

there are a few contact poison - I think lime peel is -
juice contacts the skin and then you go out into the sun ( in that order)- a few cucurbitae do it I think
having had it it is pretty unpleasant - the blisters last about a week

You used to be able to ring up the council and they would deal with it but since everyone is going like " oo giant triffids- never seen that before" presumably all that has stopped
Isn't it supposed to make cows and livestock I'll as well. If I remember rightly farmers arensupposed to get rid of it !
I disagree. Wolfsbane/Monkshood is far more dangerous. Just handling its leaves can kill. Aconite poisoning. Haven't read any other posts, but I'll take some dissuading. Every part of this plant is a killer.
^^ Several plants such as ragwort are notifiable because of the danger they cause to livestock.
This grows in profusion along the riverbank bank where I live !
I've never heard of it- thank you xx jourdain, is ragwort actually notifiable? I know we remove it from horses' fields, but I never knew it was notifiable.
It isn't...

"Ragwort the Notifiable weed falsehood. The claim that ragwort is a "notifiable weed" is a very common one. It occurs on over 20 local government websites in the UK. and is repeated frequently as a result. There is no such thing as a notifiable weed in UK law."
loads of it being strimmed down here.....got to take care that it doesn't touch you.
Thank you, Pixie:)
