I guess that whole argument he kicked up about his faith and politics was utter rubbish then. What a vacuous time-waster. He wasted his seat and countless votes. Liberal Democrat supporters (if there are any left) deserve better, surely.

Was Jeremy Corbyn the only person who was actually attempting to win that election?

Well Tim Farron was never going to win the election and he knew it but I don't see how his decision to resign would have affected his desire to go after every vote.
He decided to pack it in but naturally kept quiet about it.
Of the 3 main parties the tories assumed they'd win, Corbyn thought he'd lose (as did many who voted for him) and Farron knew he would. But in the end they were squeezed out by 2 extremes.
BTW the irritating pop ups are gradually driving me away from this site. Or maybe I'm just unlucky

Farron was an awful waste of space, he should have said what he believed whether he was right or wrong, and not dragged "his" religion into it.

Yes I use the thing that dare not speak it's name (or have it spoken) on Windows. The issue is with the phone: I daresay the thing that we mustn't mention would work there too, but in order to activate it I need to bomb out of the parental controls I've set up and it doesn't seem worth the effort - or at least it didn't until I started being forceably re-directed in mid-flow to some website or other (despite declining the kind offer). Banner ads I can put up with, but hijacking of edit session is quite another matter

If you are seeing popups it may be a sign of a wider problem. I use AB without the unmentionable but don't get popups.

I do get "ads" but they don't pop up over the screen, they are self contained .

Plainly whatever nasty is involved knows one is using an apple device as you are prompted to apply for a free iPad, I think

No Ichi, download a browser called Brave to your phone. It is built into that, and works brilliantly with AB.

Safari is the standard browser for iPhone and I'm disinclined to download other browsers just for the sake of stopping pop ups on one site

Farron in anti everything except Farron. The reason he quit as leader is because there was nothing to lead.

getting back to the OP - no, I don't think so. He could hardly have walked out just before the election, the party's vote would have collapsed much as Ukip's did; that's no time to walk out. And the suggestion that he did it because he was tired of answering questions about gay sex when he was trying to lead a political party also seems plausible.

Fighting the election as best he could, then standing down so a more suitable leader can be found - that sounds like the sensible way to do things.

I have opined previously on Mr Farron -

If you are a devout Christian, then you should be willing and able to defend your position in public - that is part of what your faith requires.

If you are a high-level politician, you should be willing and able to defend your position in public - it's what your job requires.

Mr Farron knew the rules when he started public life - he is a let-down, a disgrace, and a moral coward in both his public office and his faith.

Advising now that he was quitting anyway, he adds an absence of dignity and shame to his growing portfolio of seriously unatrractive character traits for a mature adult.
