Perhaps we should consider renaming the Black Country, since it doesn't include the whites who still live in that part of the country? :0)

Silly woman , the squabble about this flag has been going on for ages - I think it's great.
Yes AOG, wait for this, I agree with you unreservedly. Nothing racist about that flag at all, and anyone who thinks it is has no understanding of the Black Country's history. She should shut up or educate herself, not that anyone in the Black Country of any race will give a toss about her opinion anyway, they're a great and proud community there who are perfectly lovely and march to the beat of their own drum.
Do some people deliberately look for things to get het up about ??? Silly woman ...
I like it very nice design, I can't see any "isms". Standard lefty taking offence when none exists.

I presume the stupid woman was trying to associate the chain with slavery.
Even thought the origins of the flag have been explained over the years?

Odd ball.
I agree that the flag isn't racist and does depict the industrial heritage of the area.
I can see where she gets the argument from, though. Chain makers did make manacles, chains and shackles for the slave trade and some Black Country folk got very rich from it, such as the Pearson's of Wolverhampton and the Gibbon's of Sedgley.
It is part of our history that should not be forgotten or ignored and without the chainmakers, coal and glass the Black Country would not exist as a region.
Of course the Black Country chain makers also made chains for shipping, including the Titanic; agriculture; canals and industry.

The Black Country flag is an excellent, striking image of our area.

Perhaps we should condemn the boat builders of long ago, after all boats were used to transport slaves, perhaps we should also ban cotton and cotton garments after all were not slaves used to pick this crop?
The wheel has a lot to answer for too.

Why? they were forced to walk. :0)
Dave Cartwright said: "Black by day and red by night - a result of the local furnaces giving out smoke and grime during the day and glowing by night. The flag background is therefore both black and red, with the chains showing a typical product manufactured in the area."

Stupid Stupid woman ( she comes from Birmingham ).
For balance, here is Smith's press release on the matter:
