EDDIE, I was referring to foods bought in the visiting room. Foods from the canteen you could certainly eat in your cell. Also you could have as much money in your prison account as you wanted but spends were limited according to whether you were on basic, standard or enhanced (I knew one con who took £400 to court with him because he knew he was getting a custodial and wanted enough money to see him through...what turned out to be...a 6 month sentence. it went straight into his prison account, no problem. But he couldn't spend it as he wished)
Having said all that, this was over over 15 years ago and things have changed a lot, especially in private nicks.
