I think probably bad, it can only lead to a larger wage bill.

"we pay their wages" - that goes for the entire public sector, I don't think it helps anyone to have salaries public, it can only lead to a larger bill in my opinion and in the public sector that means a larger burden on the tax payer.
jno, we all have to pay taxes but the BBC licence fee is totally different.
The way media works today there could and should be a way to 'opt out'

///Good question Donny !///

Question, really???
I'm not really fussed about who earns what at the Beeb, don't think it's a very good idea tho.

What about 2 co-presenters and one learns their colleague is on the list and they're not?!

Don't mind taxes being paid for Civil Servants, it's the uncivil ones I have a problem with :-)

Agree with Talby, there should be an opt-out type of scheme
Alba I'm very civil may I have a pay rise?
Islay, one of the things about this is it's going to show that males get paid rather more than females, even if they're sitting next to them doing the same job.

Presumably that doesn't happen in the civil service (or in non-presenter-roles at the BBC), and yet I wonder if there are ways around it?
of course you can Islay, if only it were up to me... ;-)

I have an inkling tho, that the next BBC report will not include disclosure of those earning eye-watering amounts of money. Think I heard that on the Beeb news this morning.
//It can only lead to a larger wage bill// That of course assumes another commercial company wants to pay more for a bunch of lefty luvvies.

The BBC are funded by tax and as a tax payer I want to know where the excesses are. Publishing those getting over 100k seems about right, we can then judge whether they are worth it and understand where our money is going.

As also pointed out above it willbe interesting to see if the BBC, who continually preach equality, are living by their own standards.

As a last point personally I think that as a public broadcaster, if we must pay for one, they should not be in competition for with the commercial companies. They should be nurturing fledgling 'stars' and producing the programs not commercially viable, not paying bucket loads for start to attract viewers.
/// You do not need to pay anyone an obscene amount of money to talk about football. ///

Or even play it, if it comes to that.

oh FGS AOG, give it a rest!!!
omg ... just been revealed the BBC are paying Miranda Hart £1.8 million.
i think it's a good idea if it helps in the demise of the bbc license fee
What good will it do, any of us knowing how much these BBC employees receive?

Might make some blow off steam perhaps, but it won't alter the fact.

Well I expect a very long thread , or a few - as you say blowing hot air - but other than that I can't say I'm very interested.
Good grief, here we go another thread about to be hijacked.
good for Miranda, I like her.
(though she must have been reclassified as male)
The report's out then -

Overall spend on talent is down, fewer higher-earners & the spend on that bracket is also down.

Heigh-ho, plenty to get their teeth into for those that like to get exercised about such things. Frankly, I don't think I could be more uninterested - however, as a nod to the OP, overall I think it's probably a bad idea.
