But how are they going to trace the hundreds (thousands?) of owners who already have one?

Pity folk couldn't behave themselves and all the red tape had to be added. Chances are those who are irresponsible will build their own or buy second hand and disable any "geofencing" around gaols. The average hobbyist who uses common sense anyway, will end up being the one who trains, licences, and complies.

I fear you're right OG.
I believe on banning Joe the public from purchasing one should be enforced.

But they do have a purpose in the right hands.
Used a lot on large farms as well.
The heights at which they can fly should be limited.

What would that do?
They couldn't hit planes!! There should be no go zones. If a licence is required it could be denied for location reasons.

Take into account....you can't even buy a TV without giving your details.
About time too, but the policing of it, and who does it, may be a problem. I doubt anyone caught will get a sentence that will deter other illegal users.

They couldn't hit planes? What about when they take off and land? Most concerns about drones have been around airports.
Zacs....that's my concern. They can hit planes.

I think our intellectual abilities have parted at this juncture, therefore I'm discontinuing my involvement in this debate.
There will still be a risk to aircraft whether drones are registered or not.
Jeezo! This is a bag of nothing.
"I believe on banning Joe the public from purchasing one should be enforced."

WOW! The fun police are in full effect tonight and no suprise it's mainly from a law enforcer!

There seems to be a lot of hand wringing, panic and mass hysteria, here and all over, maybe some people need to get a life, leave their work mentality at work when they come home and stop bringing this madness to the net, hobbists and gadget lovers should not have to pay for a fews illegal or imorral actions (Typos left on purpose to guage whther theyre the grammmmar polize"£(*&!)

Have they killed anyone?
Are hobby coptors and planes over 250gs needing a license and is it fact?

Maybe leave them alone and look the safety of their own homes to follow and film night dogwalkers in case they defaecate without picking it up, or maybe there's someone on their street playing music over a decibel that they could be using their time reporting to the council or police?
"Zacs....that's my concern. They can hit planes."

Really? On a party night that is your concern? With the world in turmoil that is what keeps you up at night?

You work in security so you should know whether they can or can't they use radio jammers to stop the drones around the airport?

What frequency are your radios?
Was yesterday 'have a dig at ummmm' day, Thirdamigo.?
Whoever sells these things will have records to whom they have been sold to ( Not by name) the should be registered and the owner put through a test, or are they going to wait for an airline to come down before legislation will be put in? jut about right for the UK, close the gate when the cows have gotten out.
FF - he's suspended now!!

Working for a security firm doesn't mean I know all details about security. I see the receipts which might spark a convo with my boss about why he's purchased something.
Just about to say, Joined July, Banned July, good start, watch his space.
