"...that German industry would put pressure on German politicians to argue for a good deal for the UK, access to the European market without having to abide by the rules."
I don't know why this continued misleading information is allowed to persist. Almost all non-EU countries have access to the European market without having to abide by the rules. If that were not so, the hefty trade between, say, the US and EU nations (including the UK) would not exist. The issue concerning the UK's exit is of membership of the European Single Market and its Customs Union which is a different thing entirely. There is no reason why the UK having access to the European Market should be in any jeopardy because of Brexit.

Isn't it 'Beware the Greeks, even when bringing gifts' P.P. ?
Not being over-intelligent over this, I don't speak much Greek ('Kalimera' etc.) but when I read 'Billy Bunter', millions of years ago, I remember Mr. Quelch snapping this correction at someone. (I have a strangely retentive brain - i.e. it remembers very strange things!)
