5%. Mmm. I've no idea how much the items cost but I suppose every little helps.
They should be free imo. Or a free option. I could go to the family planning clinic and get free condoms so why shouldn't dealing with the result of not being pregnant be free?
I'm biologically predisposed to grow a beard. Can I have free razor blades?

Like Zacs, these thing are somewhat of a mystery to me, cost-wise, but at least Tesco is taking the initiative.

Perhaps they should now think about stopping selling tobacco products ?
Because that's a stupid comparison?

I don't really hold with the free option, but things like this shouldn't be taxed....food isn't.
Zacs...I also think razors should be free. Not the Mach ones but basic Bic...the same as sanitary wear, basic.

If someone is that short of money they can't afford them, as the lady on TV this morning explained, anything is better than nothing. Better than girls missing school because they've had to resort to putting a sock down their knickers.
I cant use Bic ones. My skin's too sensitive. I use Mach 3.
Yes... so do I :-)

There are many girls missing school because they can't afford sanitary wear. A boy doesn't have to miss school because he can't have a shave.
Not many schoolboys shave. Your not at school yet you think you should have them. Where did 'school' creep in?

You can still buy the sanitary pads of my youth - the size of a house brick and with a tendency to leak.

I am undecided about the tax on these products. There has to be other products (as above) that are unfairly taxed. Chocolate should be given on a medicinal basis to level out hormones.

Zacs...this is what was discussed on BBC this morning. Hygiene poverty and the amount of girls missing school because they can't afford sanitary ware.

Also...kids need to attend school until they're 18. My sons were shaving much younger than that.
Well done, Tesco.

However, there is another option. There is a device out there called a "moon cup", which is reusable. I accept it is not appropriate for everyone, especially younger girls.

It is also environmentally friendly.

Personally, I believe that those on low or limited incomes should be able to obtain free (or at the very least reduced) sanitary wear. It is difficult enough for girls as it is, without the problem that they cant afford basic personal hygiene products.
Good news from Tesco, no doubt others will follow.

My Daughter was a keen user of a Moon Cup, not sure if she still is.

There should be basic sanitary protection for those unable to afford it and those who can will still buy the higher priced brands.

whatever (if anything does) happens it will be made as complicated as possible.

They will probably say that strings on tampons and wings on towels are making it a luxury item. "Strings & Wings" sounds catchy.

:-)
'No strings' could prove problematic.
SHouldn't laugh, but......
That will please charlie boy

mamy - it was so long ago. I think that I was thinking applicator/no-applicator tampons.

Well yes, but there's still the exit to negotiate.
