North Korea, Trump And The Odious Mr Kim
Last week the North Koreans were said to have ICBM capability to reach The States but unlikely to have nuclear warheads. Today the White House says they have 60 nuclear warheads that could be missile-launched. None of the mainstream media have yet explained why or how the narrative has changed.

So often it starts off when the smaller brother gets loud or aggressive but, to start with, there isn't really a threat, he's such a puny weakling, and the older brother should just soak up the "hits" and maintain a sense of discipline. But that doesn't often last, and then it turns violent, and the little brother gets totally wrecked but big bro doesn't come out of the fight looking too good either.
It still holds that if North Korea actually starts anything serious then they'll be totally destroyed, because they have no allies if nothing else. Someone in NK must realise this, but perhaps it's also important for Trump to recognise that fact. He shouldn't need to threaten "fire and fury" in language that's just a little chilling, because he knows, we know, and North Korea surely still knows, that they will lose any fight. If indeed North Korea starts something then, of course, Trump will be well-justified in taking action against them; before that point, it seems in everyone's interest to try and de-escalate the threat of war and apocalypse (while being ready to respond if necessary). It's a little un-nerving that Trump looks to have an itchy trigger finger, is all...
But that presupposes that Kim Jong Un is rational, and maybe he isn't. If he carries on like this then maybe it really is time to turn round and clock him before it's too late.

For once I agree fully with ymb. I am an overall fan of Obama but he clearly got this seriously wrong. It was Obama who drew a line in the sand over nuclear armament and ignored it when the regime crossed it. Further, the nature of the Kims as rulers has been well known for a long time. It was only a matter of time until one of them eventually clashed with a blowhard President like Trump, and Obama should shoulder a good deal of the blame for allowing things to get this far (even if it was for understandable reasons).
Trump, meanwhile, seems to have been left in a lose-lose situation. Nobody particularly wants a war with North Korea, but there seem remarkably few diplomatic options. If he continues the white house policy of "wait until Mr. Kim eats himself into an early grave", the problem will get worse. If he does something, there's an extremely high chance it will escalate and end up with a very costly entanglement.

Jim, //I wonder if this is what was meant by the idea of returning to the glorious 50s and 60s//
/// Well, you certainly implied that someone said it, but if it hasn't been said I can't see the point in posting it . Still, for some strange reason it seems to have amused Mikey. Moving on ..... ///
Yes why don't you move on naomi?
You are so argumentative recently.
Why continue to argue over such a trivial matter, especially when this thread is about much more serious matters?
