There really is no point descending into "whatabouter y", it's shallow and just makes false equivalencie s. A young woman has now been killed, ostensibly over a statue. This question should have been put to bed when the council voted. It's their jurisdiction and their responsibili ty. A bluddy statue is not worth killing over. Also I just don't buy the idea...

Naomi....Trump could have condemned the actions of the Far Right, without equivocation. But he choose to stay way behind the tape, and Eddie and I have given a reason why he did so.
Like you, I abhor all violence but the White Supremacists came to Charlottesville, not the other way around.
From my link above :::
"Democrats and Republicans alike have taken issue with his choice of words, noting that he failed to refer to the role of white nationalists.
Republican Senator Cory Gardner tweeted: "Mr. President - we must call evil by its name. These were white supremacists and this was domestic terrorism."
Senator Orrin Hatch of Utah, also a Republican, felt similarly"

fender: // imagine removing churchills statue, //
I recollect Obama (you know that muslim president they had) removing churchills bust from the Oval Office
and I dont think any Brit drove a car into the West Wing in protest
remind me - I may be wrong ....
The president half condemned it by saying that there was violence on both sides
" the governor of the Virginia had a clear message for the protesters".... but again alas their president did not

Reading the NYTs take on Trump's tactical silence, revealed a disturbing tale:
'Mr. Trump, the product of a well-to-do, predominantly white Queens enclave who in 1989 paid for a full-page ad in The New York Times calling for the death penalty for five black teenagers convicted but later exonerated of raping a white woman in Central Park'

Trump specifically condemned the violence "on all sides", which is of course entirely fair, although maybe there's a case to be made to target the people who went on the march in the first place.
Be that as it may, I don't think there's anything wrong in condemning the violence "from all sides".
So why, when Corbyn did the same thing, was he so roundly criticised by the same people who praise Trump?

Its obvious why Trump won't actively condemn the Far Right.....he gets a lot of his support from that area, as can be seen by the chilling, racist link that I posted earlier at 07:46 this morning.
I recommend all those who support Trump should view that link.

Jim, //So why, when Corbyn did the same thing, was he so roundly criticised by the same people who praise Trump?//
Turning that on its head, why wasn’t Corbyn roundly criticised by those who are now pointing the finger at Trump?
This ‘let’s all hate Trump-fest’ is detracting from the essence of the OP.
