/// Marketing departments are promoting diversity in their campaigns to 'prevent perceived discrimination', a survey of 500 companies has revealed. ///
It would seem that if you are a white, straight model, you are already experiencing 'perceived discrimination'.
The survey in the article said the population was 87.2%, 2% mixed race, 6.9% Asian, 3% black and just 1% othere. Perhaps rather than trying not to appear racist or homophobic or whatever the trendy thing is (as the article imply) they should be looking at population % and cast accordingly. If advertisers are trying to catch their customer base then the 87.2% is...
Models don't have to be straight or gay - they are posing or acting, not reflecting their true sexuality. Many straight actors play gay men and women, and vice versa

If advertisers are trying to catch their customer base then the 87.2% is by far the biggest.
It would seem that if you are a white, straight model, you are now experiencing a greater variety of roles to apply for, and with that an increase in the competition applying for said roles.
In my view some advertisers handle things clumsily and a situation can appear forced, good advertising and you don't notice that at all.
Advertisers are in the business of generating money for their clients. If tweaking a campaign here or there makes the product more appealling to a greater number of people.......job done!
