I'd hazard a guess that the UN would have shuffled it's feet nervously, then looked longingly at the US with a 'puppy about to be smacked' expression , secretly hoping they would act as protector and guardian of the free world, just as they always do.

The UN are about as useful as a catflap on a submarine in such cases.

My biggest fear is that one day North Korea will try pushing things just a little too far, after which it will disappear into a mushroom shaped cloud leaving the rest of the world to try and sort out the mess.

A few years ago a South Korean navy ship was torpedoed resulting in the deaths of 46 sailors. It's likely that the north was responsible. No action was taken.
A Korean missile falling on Japan would probably have the same result.

Here is a scenario - they decide to lob one towards Guam.
Trump would be compelled to do something .

One response might me for the US to try and shoot it down .
However can you imagine the embarrassment to the US if they failed - the US defence systems ,not up to the job .

the patriot system was given to Israel during one campaign
( war of the cities but it may have been later)
and the falling bits of patriots antimissiles did more damage than the missiles themselves which mainly missed I recall
