To return to the thread - there is always a time and a place for sledgehammer irony - I am a huge fan of it myself.

I don't believe racism is the issue here.

I would suggest that the officer was not going to be dismissed for being a racist, but for an appalling absence of judgement when using inappropriate irony dealing with a terrified motorist.

I must admit I am confused looking again as to his stance.

I assumed from the first post, and my assumption from the story too is that is was based on race.

With the benefit of hindsight, a film of the incident to play at leisure and examine in detail, and of course, not actually being involved at the time, we all have our views of the incident and how it was handled.
