It always comes back to the one thing really. Legality. Legality of the demand and legality of the amount.

If I have read the reports correctly he hasn't even given an amount he wants (speculation not withstanding). He is making the UK say how much just so he can say we agree we owe.

HE should have the balls to say you owe xxx because of yyy provable by zzz.

Then and only then would the UK be able to question what they want.

Caught a snatch of the news today and there was something about Theresa May suggesting £30 billion over five years.A lot less than the £100 billion the EU were bandying about.

No. Like cassa I've been advocating preparing for no deal for a long time. It is completely beyond me that young people can see the sort of attitude at the top of the EU and still want to be ruled by those people.
Having said that, on my recent flight home from Italy, I had to explain to very many of my fellow passengers what the 'Shengen' area was and why we had to queue separately as 'Non-Schengen'. One bloke didn't believe me and queued elsewhere for ages before being sent to join us!! We were actually a bit faster than the 'Schengen' lot. :)

What is the carp about future pensions contributions? Surely that is down to the EU.

We would have contributed while we were members, their pension scheme now needs to cover liabilities with fewer members.

I'm fine with contributing where we have signed up beforehand, always have been; but not otherwise. Ex-members aren't liable for much. And we won't have signed up to keep paying for things that will no longer be our responsibility and for which we won't benefit.

But we are naughty children. We have defied the ruling party and are not going to play the game anymore.

Therefore big brother has to come in and slap us around a bit.

It now depends on wether we stay around for the slapping or walk away intact.
