The Home Secretary has the power to proscribe whoever it is deemed "desirable" to be called such. Look for the catch all inside my !!....!! notations on this government pamphlet.
What is a proscribed organisation?
. Under the Terrorism Act 2000, the Home Secretary may proscribe an organisation if she
believes it is concerned in terrorism, and it is proportionate to do. For the purposes of the
Act, this means that the organisation:
• commits or participates in acts of terrorism;
• prepares for terrorism;
!! • promotes or encourages terrorism (including the unlawful glorification of terrorism); or
• is otherwise concerned in terrorism. !!
What determines whether proscription is proportionate?
A. If the statutory test is met, the Secretary of State will consider whether to exercise her
discretion to proscribe the organisation. In considering whether to exercise this discretion,
the Secretary of State will take into account other factors, including:
• the nature and scale of an organisation’s activities;
• the specific threat that it poses to the UK;
• the specific threat that it poses to British nationals overseas;
• the extent of the organisation’s presence in the UK; and
!! • the need to support other members of the international community in the global fight !!

I do realise that the military occupy a saintly position with some people but it depresses me to read that there are those who seek to question (or indicate some form of doubt over or disagreement with) the decision to move against an extremist group/organisation because other groups/organisations exist who also are extremist.
// but there may be an underlying state in society, ie continual undermining of British culture which makes these individuals feel threatened and act in such an extreme way to make their voices heard.// crazy
// Well presented and reasoned post Hazi. // col Madd
so it is OK to undermine army discipline so long as it is done in the best possible taste?
Col Madd after god knows how many y in the forces should know that that an officer saying 'shoot that man' is not met by
'oo sir - do I have to ? I quite like him and he speaks my language!?" but should be met by
bamma lamma lammma lamma lamma ! job done sir !
what a world we live in
when vets think it is OK for army personnel to go AWOL

I am indeed pleased that the 4 have been arrested, and wait with bated breath(or baited breath as WC Fields once said) to see what the specific charges will be. I await in a similar state of frozen anticipation to see this "noble" set of proscribed definitions applied evenly across all our wonderful multi confrontational groups.
It is entirely possible that these soldiers who have been branded with the convenient label of neonazism are not actually the nazi scum they are being portrayed as but proud and loyal patriots who were acting with frustration at our countrys' inaction to root out the causes of radical islamist terrorism of the type that slaughtered their comrade Lee Rigby on the streets of Woolwich, and whose evil minions have have waged unholy war against our soldiers, emergency services and civilians in an appalling ever-growing catalogue of horrendous crime. We cannot allow imams to preach hatred and jihadi bile against western culture before there is going to be an ugly counter-reaction. Before we condemn our soldiers, let them have a fair trial where we can hear what they have to say without the pro-islamist spin from the BBC.
Hazi....with the greatest of respect....rowlocks.
Read the Wiki entry on "National Action" Far-right hate groups don't get much nastier than this.
I have every expectation that these member of NA will get a fair trial, and will be able to explain why they were active in such a horrible organisation, if indeed they were.

//Togo...then I suggest, like AOG, that you had better make your views known to Ms Rudd and the Home Office, as its them that decide these matters. //
Yes I'm sure you do. Jezza the "bell" could be described as a terrorist if we want to interpret said "rules" in a manner that best suits our needs no doubt. As indeed could anyone with definite views. The problem becomes more polarised though when the social manipulators, are allowed to use rules that are austentiabley designed to apply to all but, only show any urgency or dedication in the use of the "guidelines" when they feel it is expedient to a cause that they hold dear. That is why we have the rise of the far right, and after policies that have encouraged it's rise bear fruit, why, that then justifies the very tactics that caused it in the first place. Meehh.
