Amazing, can anyone remember any mention of transgender issues, say 18 months ago?

Can't see many preferring to be shown a single group of clothes and having to sort out something suitable for their son or daughter instead of being shown the clothes designed for a particular gender and having no problem spotting what they want. Ideal way to get parents to visit a different store and not bother looking look at your stock at all.
Personally, I prefer to wear trousers mostly. You have to de-hair your legs more if you wear skirts! That was light-hearted, by the way. I was teaching in Halifax and Bradford and it was much easier to become a 'surrogate male'. So I got lots of separates. I wore a shortish, floaty dress about mid-August this year ( bought it because it was so bohemian and attracted me) and this was a pleasant sensation.
This is a silly decision by the school i.m.o.. Uniform definitions must include trousers and skirts and pupils' choice accepted. No problem. 'Trans' can wear skirts or trousers, depending on their choice. Can't see why the school did this t.b.h..

I'm pretty sure why they've done it, I feel all the rest is simply to muddy the waters by nor admitting they couldn't enforce the skirt length rule.
