Many fail to realise that E. Europeans coming here in the early to mid noughties came direct from about 1965, like time - travellers.
Always described as good workers, I knew some in a hotel I used every week and very good they were too, living in a caravan hidden away in the grounds they would work 90 hours a week no problem, the guy who served your last drink at 11pm would also serve your breakfast at 7am...great for the employer, 10 staff rather than 25, no problems with rotas etc while the people concerned (Poles) were making more money than they could dream of - this was 2005 and one told me he was making more than ten times what he could make at home. With the current rate for a hospitality worker in Warsaw at 160p per hour after deductions I can't think they are rushing home to work, unless they've made enough to retire on...as for the builders being spot on and good grafters etc, I'm sure our own blokes would put on a pretty impressive performance if they could jump on Easyjet for an hour or two and earn 5 to 6 thousand quid a week, which is the rough equivalent..
