I still find it odd that lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgender people are all lumped under one label and called a community.

I don't know about a rapid rise in attacks on people, but I do know that when I went to school (lots of years ago) anyone who was suspected of being gay was bullied. My son is in his twenties, and there were quite a few openly gay people in his year at school, including some 'foreigners'. Everyone shrugged their shoulders when anyone 'announced' that they were gay. "Yeah, we know" was the usual reply.

There are two reasons:
Victims are more willing to report it
The assaults and attacks are being recorded differently - as a specific hate crime rather than common assault, ABH, GBH etc

And I sure anyone who wasn't walking around wearing rose tinted specs, could equally deduce it is a possibility.

Why, in certain areas it isn't safe for a heterosexual female to walk, if wearing clothes not acceptable to the Muslim faith.

So there are a whole host of factors before you even begin to consider the impact of immigration on this. It says rather a lot about you, AOG, that this is the first reason that occurs to you despite there being no indications in the survey or the article to suggest it.
