If they have been offered assistance by the same person for a few years then surely trust would have been built up to re-assure them, but like everything else, folk leave, lack of funds to continue etc etc

A civilized society takes on the duty to protect it's vulnerable citizens, including those apparently not mentally capable of making basic decisions regarding their own welfare. (Is it even legal to use a public bench as your home ?)

What to do, is more difficult. But as a first suggestion maybe put their posessions into storage and compulsory take them into a mental health institute/home/hospital ?

What kind of life is that? They'd be better off going back to Somalia - at least it's warm so they might as well sleep rough there.

Of course I'm not jesting. How should I know which hospital ? Those assigned to help those with mental issues such that they can't cope for themselves, of course.

O_G...ask Nailit what he thinks of the Mental Health Care in the UK, someone who has paid his taxes and is British through and through, so what kind of "life", "treatment" "care" would an unemployed,homeless Ethiopian get and can you just imagine the public outcry.

What’s complex about it? They have been offered suitable accommodation which costs more than the amount many people working take home. They don’t want it. That’s that, end of.

How much more “assistance and compassion” do you recommend beyond the offer of a free flat in an expensive area of London?

What they should be doing is to stop wasting their time (and taxpayers’ money) and instead instigate arrangements to have them removed from the street and repatriated to Somalia, where conditions are obviously more suitable for them.

Either these folk are entitled to be here and the system should cope, or they're not and should return to their home.

The authorities, local and police, might want to address the use of the library as a public toilet in the first instance.
Any local gadgie tumbling from the pub of a night would find himself on the wrong side of a fixed penalty for hosing down a wall on the high street.
Steam cleaner and bleach should be deployed to clear up the midden this pair are creating, right after suitable passage is arranged.

Probably get shot for saying this but they are far better off on the bench than they would be in Somalia. They look healthy and well fed , far better than pictures I see of people in Somalia. I am sure many people go out of their way to give them food.

Like any vagrant in any town or city they should be treated the same. If any other rough sleeper should be moved on then so should they. If any other rough sleeper is not allowed to *** in a corner outside the local library then neither should they.

If they had recognisable and treatable mental health issues why haven't they been sectioned? Is it because actually they don't and simply refuse help? Move them on each night and thy might!!

They lost their previous place because they didn't pay rent. What's the betting that if given another one they would do the same again?

What about the thousands of British citizens who would rather live on the street than in a house? It is common for homeless people to refuse housing as they prefer to live on the street.

Yes send them back from whence they came, and where the climate is more compatible to the life style they so obviously wish to lead.

Not everybody with a mental health issue need to be locked up or live in an asylum, most people with mental health issues are most likely working with full time jobs!!
If they want to live rough on the streets, why not? many other people doing the same thing, and most likely they are much safer in this country than Somalia!
